No ladders! I can't stand heights.
If I put my glasses on and can see my feet, I get dizzy!

cornergran Sat 06-May-17 22:44:08

I've crept in for a quiet sit before bedtime and don't plan to venture out. My surgery rant got me told off for not understanding how overworked the NHS is. I do, really I do, I was part of it until I dug the tunnel and escaped. I know that the 'rules' in our surgery are unusual, we do speak with a nurse not a receptionist/admin person for test results. It is supposed to reduce the GP workload. If was a last straw sort of thing. I thought a rant would help, it did until I read some, but not all, of the responses. Some were helpful. I will act on yours ann when heads reappear from under water. Oh well, and this too will pass.

mawb has had a far harder time of it, so I'm not really moaning. No justification for the unreasonable stuff on your thread mawb. It's a shame the many attempts to be helpful were soured by the few. When we're feeling fraught the unthinking comments can be hard to manage. Hope your husband is OK after the vomiting.

It's not fun in RL right now, although we did have a really good lunch (here, so a manic morning) and afternoon out with 2/3 of the family. The bigger ones were great with Littlest, I've a birthday soon (very envious of the blue cake n&g ) and it was our mini celebration.

Your rectification work seems stuck charley, wish I could apply the WD40 and until-stick it for you. Not sure how much your twisted knee man will accomplish. If there was an Olympic Medal for patience it would be yours.

I hope the BT engineer can sort your broadband soop. If you feel there is cause for complaint afterwards as of course it was fairly recently you had other problems I recommend a letter to the Chairmans Office at the registered address, not customer service. It gets a speedy and professional response

ann I own to sharing your curiosity. Hope poshgran will tell us. I often wonder why people choose the user names that they do. Mine is very simple. I live on a corner.

Don't envy you the noise, kitty, hope it quietens soon.

Sounds a hard time with your grandson swanny, lack of sleep so skews the world. You do a sterling job with him, but it must be stressful no matter how much you love him.

Oh well, I'm off. Will be back for a quiet sit. Take care all. Hope you avoid the snakes of life and can climb the ladders.

Maw I hope that Paw feels much better tomorrow and that you make the party.

Galen Sat 06-May-17 22:34:32

maw really feeling for you and dh.
Are you getting everything you are entitled to?
If you're in doubt phone me, if you've lost my number, pm me and I'll send it again.

Galen Sat 06-May-17 22:30:05

I have a middle name! Never realised that made me posh!
As I have to be packed for Thursday evening, do you lot think I should start thinking about what to pack?
How many sets of pearls do I need for 7 days?

MawBroon Sat 06-May-17 22:28:09

I am keeping everything crossed that we make it to Birmingham tomorrow for the big Broon birthday bash. DGS1 will be 7 next week , hard to believe and littlest fella will be ONE just 2(or is it 3???) days later. DD1 was hoping to host a big get together including great aunts and uncle in their gorgeous new house which apparently is covered in scaffolding as befits a money pit and they are realising they may have let themselves in for a VERY long haul.
However Paw is still rough. He hunkered down in an armchair alternating consommé and peppermint tea and eating toast with just a scraping of butter. Not sick today, but not feeling great. If he is no better we can't go but he will be very very disappointed. As will I.
Then Gracie had a horrid incident getting stuck half under the table and unable to get up because her feet and legs kept slipping. I was just out of the shower and it was not a pretty sight as I tried to slide a turtle mat under her paws so that she could get some purchase. Got her up eventually but not after a bit of an "accident" and real fear on her part. She was badly panicked by it and I fear that we may be seeing the end of the road soon. I will not see her suffer in pain but nevertheless spent the afternoon in tears fussing over her and racking my conscience as to what is the right thing to do.
On that note I bid you all a good night - a better one than today has been.

PoshGran Sat 06-May-17 22:10:29

Saw your post just as I was shutting down for the night ann.
I am a gran; GS is 3 soon & his half-brother 8.
My username was chosen as a possible "flag" to any other near-local grans. I live on the outskirts of Peterborough, known in football circles as "the Posh".

The poshest things about me are that I live in a cul-de-sac & have a middle name!! grin

annsixty Sat 06-May-17 21:26:37

Poshgran are you really a poshgran and what makes you so. No problems and absolutely no agenda or critism just interested in your user name and why you chose it.

PoshGran Sat 06-May-17 20:48:40

Night is drawing nigh...
n & g - lovely birthday party pictures. Our GS is 3 in July - time goes so fast!
Swanny - tranquil thoughts for you after a tricky day. I've never lived beside the sea, I'm more of a trees girl when it comes to visual therapy; have some of whatever works for you.
kitty - I've thawed out now. Like you, I was relishing sunshine yesterday; Cambs/Northants today decidedly parky!
Hopefully a better (sunnier) day tomorrow - possible retail & definite visual therapy at a large craft fair, but as no buses it's a 45 min walk each way. If a crow could carry me it would only be 5 min flying time! grin
Night all.

Charleygirl Sat 06-May-17 17:32:43

kitty in a nutshell, no. The boss has sacked his two Eastern European guys and the fellow who had stomach problems 2 weeks ago now has a ?twisted knee and is coming tomorrow, wanting me to help carry his work bag indoors. I can just about manage to get myself indoors as I have minor balance problems and in need of a left knee replacement so I doubt if I will be helping much unless he wants one tool at a time. I suppose the problem is he cannot afford to take a reasonable amount of time off as he is paid by the day. He thinks that I will be examining his knee for him tomorrow- somehow I do not think so.

N&G that cake looks scrumptious- no doubt it is long gone by now. Cooper is having great fun.

Swanny Sat 06-May-17 17:07:06

Thanks for listening you lovely lot, I feel better for having got that off my chest. I think DGS' parents were embarrassed about it when they got back this afternoon (they'd heard him when they phoned to say they were on the way back) but it's just one of those things. We all love him dearly and know he loves us too in his own way.

soop it doesn't seem 5 minutes since the BT engineer was last at your house. I hope he's not charging you for the pleasure of your company brew Missing you already, as they say flowers

kittylester Sat 06-May-17 17:03:15

Hi soop - good of you to keep in touch!

Hi swanny - hope you get a chance to relax. wine

kittylester Sat 06-May-17 17:00:33

Lovely photos N&G. Please let us know how your poo is! grin

Any grans still able to use their broomsticks to take messages to soop? She is missed.

I'm off to read the bedside rug thread properly Maw and, no doubt, put in my 4 pennorth on your behalf. I hope DH has not had a recurrence of the vomitting - do you know what might be causing it? Not ground glass I hope? grin

Ann, I agree - when the dust has settled your neighbour (and her family) will be glad of your presence again and they should not use you so badly. Chunter away on here. flowers

Your shopping trip sounds as though it was a success posh apart from the getting cold. brew

Did the builders turn up Charley?

Our village is surrounded by the building of new estates and one or other of them always seems to be using a pile driver so, during the week, there is a perpetual thump, thump, thump. Weekends bring a welcome break except this weekend when the family at the bottom of the garden are having their windows replaced so we have perpetual drilling! angry

It's hard to believe that DH and I sat in the garden with a cup of tea yesterday and watered the plants. Winter is back today. sad

Swanny Sat 06-May-17 16:57:20

I'm back in the quiet corner with Maw again, who did not deserve that bashing she got with the bedside rug. That sea view is very therapeutic. When I lived 10 minutes walk from the beach I would often go to look and let it take some of my sadness away on the tide.

DGS was with me till nearly 11pm last night and would not give in to sleep till his parents came home. They'd phoned en route from the theatre so I had him all ready to be bundled into their taxi and off home. This morning DDIL tried on her new outfit for a family event abroad next weekend and decided she didn't really like it, so could I have DGS for a couple of hours while they went to get something else? We had lots of fun the first hour, but then he flipped over I-know-not-what and was awful till they came back! He's 7 and is autistic so I'm very used to his behaviours but he went above and beyond today, probably through tiredness. I probably didn't cope too well for the same reason smile I now have to get my clothes etc packed up for next weekend as we're sending them ahead so we can get in and out of airports as quick as possible. DGS is very good on the plane itself but the obligatory 2 hours wait beforehand and then luggage retrieval can be 'difficult' grin

soop Sat 06-May-17 16:48:07

I've two minutes on a friend's computer. I'm MISSING you lot something awful. Tuesday afternoon a BT engineer will hopefully call and get matters sorted.

Awful no being able to catch up. But big thanks to bags for stepping in the breach.

Lots of love to you all. Sob! Now I need to return home to a broadbandless wilderness. sunshine

NanaandGrampy Sat 06-May-17 16:25:23

Afternoon all!

Hope those who were in need of a quiet sit down are feeling better!

I had no idea you were some sort of wannabe Black Widow Maw with visions of finishing Paw off!! I have noticed of late a number of posters who I have never seen before ( and often not again) who pop up, throw in some vitriol and disappear . Strange eh?

Sorry to hear soop is internetless . I am having a whip round for some carrier pigeons so we can keep in touch !

We attended Coopers birthday party today - there is bright blue birthday cake for you all. I am reliably informed by Jackson that it will turn your tongue blue ( and maybe your poo!!!) . He made it sound so yummy!

Peaceful evening to you all x

PoshGran Sat 06-May-17 15:43:25

If there's any Lady Grey on the go, may I have a cup please - I'm cold. Have just got back from relatively successful retail therapy mission (lunch included) with OH - waiting at bus stops was rather drear & certainly nippy round the gills!
Tizliz - glad water issue sorted & internet faster ?? nothing surprises me these days if you can get both gas & electricity from one provider.smile
Maw - hope things go gently for you & OH.
annsixty - {hug}
Regarding internetlessness, suggest thatbags tells soop to tell BT man on Tue things MUST be sorted as she has "national kitchen duties" to fulfil!

My successful mission this morning involved bus trip to nearby small market town which has quite a few
independent shops - including a jeweller. Trawling both online & in person round chain (?) jewellers looking & asking for something in particular has been both a waste of time & disheartening, but I am now on the right track because I have found a real live "smith" who can in a variety of different ways make what I would like. Small is beautiful - support local trades. Hooray!!
grin

Galen Sat 06-May-17 15:34:07

Alexa
What did one flag say to another?
Nothing! It just waved

Charleygirl Sat 06-May-17 14:11:32

OMG soop will be suffering from withdrawal symptoms if nobody can fix the problem until Tuesday- I know that I would. I do hope that it is repairable without having to rob a bank to pay for it.

thatbags Sat 06-May-17 14:06:18

Latest from soop is that it's serious. A BT person is going to visit on Tuesday. Until then no internet!!!

Charleygirl Sat 06-May-17 13:36:48

MawB that was totally unnecessary firing at you like that. I do love Grace's bedding -she looks so comfortable. Would she like company, me? I am sure she loves cuddles.

Crafting Sat 06-May-17 13:23:36

maw glad you are back in the kitchen (just finished reading your bedside rug thread ?). Hope your DH is ok today but as you say keep a close eye on him and head off to A &E at the first sign of trouble. Hope you have a peaceful weekend ?

MawBroon Sat 06-May-17 13:01:41

"Like you" oops

MawBroon Sat 06-May-17 11:40:44

Ventured out of my corner and am scurrying back having been accused of being unkind to DH (!) on my "bedside rug" thread ???
Or do I need Grace to budge up the dog house? "Move along inside" grin
How incredibly frustrating for soop I hope normal service is resumed soon for her. Glad your water is back on tizliz it makes us realise how we take these simple things for granted doesn't it?
Finally annsixty while I can understand your friend's children wanting to protect and comfort her, you deserve better than this. You were there (perhaps they feel guilty they were not?) but the hardest days are probably yet to come and a friend and neighbour like is inestimable. But I think they are being (unwittingly) unkind to you nevertheless. sad You have enough on your plate.
Talking of plates, DH repeated his spectacular vomiting of Thursday night on Friday at suppertime. This time I got a bowl to him in time, but there were streaks of blood in it so we debated whether it warranted 3 hours in A&E on a Friday night and came down on the side of an early night, warm bed and an "eagle eye"
It was not dramatic, like Downton Abbey, but he can take things gently today and I'll have him over there at the first sign of trouble.

Tizliz Sat 06-May-17 11:24:27

Water is back on, took 2 1/2 hours. There was a leak somewhere. Internet seems faster as well, wonder if they were connected ? At least we have internet unlike soop think she burns it out with over use?
