I need a sit down and a very, very stiff

DH didn't appear for breakfast this morning and, when I eventually got back upstairs and looked in the study, he was in earnest conversation with a person whose English was obviously not the best. He waved me away in irritation when I stood trying to work out what was going on. About 15 minutes later I listened again and realised he had handed over his computer to someone else At one stage they appeared to be able to see into the room. I told him to switch his computer off and we then proceeded to get phone calls from the 'technical support' person (which we didn't answer) asking why we weren't letting him finish mending the computer. Then DH started getting text messages from his bank saying that there had been fraudulent activity on his account.

I am totally traumatised, DH feels really stupid (and old and vulnerable ), I had to cancel a dentist's appointment as I was too jumpy (well, any excuse really!)

It had all started by DH getting a flashing message on his computer NOT a phone call. Beware!!

We are so traumatised that we are having to go out for lunch - I'm paying as all DH's card have had to be destroyed!!

Ann, I think your morning was even more traumatic than ours. Please let us know how your neighbour is. I bet you feel a bit shaken by now. I hope you found something to eat.

ann glad to hear your friends DH was taken to hospital so quickly. Hope he makes a good recovery. The sooner he's in hospital the better. I often wonder what would happen if we were called to help a neighbour at night. I always leave a pair of jog bottoms and fleece at hand (to cover a very skimpy nightie that barely covers anything but stops me getting too hot )

I've had to catch up with yesterday's kitchen news which was all about fish and chips. It's my diet day today and now all I can think of is ? and ?. I can almost smell them. Even the thought or morethan's sewage problems isn't putting me off . Glad you're all sorted now morethan.

Thank you, just to try to explain how people with Alzheimer's think, my H eventually followed me across the road and was telling P who was by them vomiting profusely that he had a dental apt at 11am as if that was the thing that mattered most, I had just got dressed when the dental surgery rang to ask if we could postpone until 12;50 as they had an emergency. I have had to rearrange my menu (look in the fridge for a casserole!!) as I can't get to the shops now as the little bus only runs in the morning.
No problem compared with my friends. He is 76 on Sunday.

As Guides, we were supposed to carry 4d in our pockets in case we needed to make an emergency phone call ('Be Prepared'). 4d was the price of the smallest bag of chips to be found on the way home, though if we had raided our pocket money we could get a better portion for 6d. The best fish and chips I have ever come across were in Anstruther on the Fife coast. Haddock is the preferred fish in Scotland and I still can't stand Cod.

galen in answer to your question about funds to buy a house we "gave lent" DD and SIL part of their deposit and they had to declare that it was a parental loan. It may be part of the attempts to deter or catch "money launderers"

OH is "out to play" with his chums, so I'm doing some household chores that are more easily done without any other feet to consider - namely Poshtowers' many tiled floors & carpets. I have a very good "daily" (me) who obliges when she feels like it!

A quick response is what is needed following a stroke so your neighbour is fortunate to have you around to help, Ann. I'm sure he will be well looked after at our local hospital and let's hope for a successful outcome.

Morning all. It's freezing here after yesterday

Ann thank goodness you were around to give support, no matter what the state of your dressing gown (you should see mine!). It must have been very traumatic for your neighbours, and, indeed, for you. Hope you are okay, and that your neighbour has a good outcome.

A much more sombre note so I am sorry to disrupt the good feelings.
I was sitting in my dressing gown writing a birthday card ready to take to the post box when my neighbour and friend came dashing across the road to say her husband had "fallen" would I go and help?
Long story short he has had a stroke. Same ambulance service as last Thursday, same hospital, the paramedic was there in 10 minutes followed by the ambulance 10 minutes later and he was bluelighted off 10 minutes after that.
He is in a very good place ,we have an excellent hospital on our doorstep. I won't need to tell you I had my scruffiest dressing gown on for dashing across the road.

All this talk about exploding sewage has at least put me off hankering for fish and chips, but I would just say that the very best fish and chips we ever had was from a van on the seafront in Saaf'end (apologies to all Essex resident! We use to love a drive down to Southend from where we lived near Epping). The fish were cooked to order so were always absolutely tip top. That, and the sea air - an unbeatable combination.
wot I hope your meeting with the solicitor is constructive. Don't let your partner walk all over you!
N&G I wish your little lad the best of birthdays! Lovely photos! Your house move seems to be going like a train at the moment. I take it there is no chain involved? That's what usually throws a spanner in the works.
My leg feels slightly better today. Against DH's better judgement we had a very slow walk around the woods next to GS's school yesterday because I wanted to see some bluebells. They were there but patchier than expected. There are usually great drifts of them, but we only walked a very small area so we may not have seen the best. When we got back to the school, I had had enough of both bluebells and walking, but it may have done me some good.

When the manhole on my patio overflowed with stinky sewage, my neighbour rang the water company and we got our drains cleared without charge. They found that 'someone' had been putting condoms and cosmetic wipes down the toilet. Neighbour discovered that the culprits were her son and his partner.

I agree N&G what a stupid question to ask. If you had been robbing banks to get the cash you would not be very likely to be telling the solicitor. Maybe a minute percentage acquire the money by ill gotten gains but the vast majority of us work our socks off all our lives and as you said, scrimped and saved.

To me, Cooper has always appeared slightly older for his age. He has had a wonderful young life and he looks so happy. Happy birthday little man.

I agree MawB emails do not appear to work in a solicitors office. Any letter written goes by snail mail when it is eventually typed.

You seem to be steaming ahead with your sale/purchase N&G well done! It always amazes me how SLOW solicitors can be especially in our tech age. Last house move , ours still seemed to use carrier pigeons to communicate the the "other side's" solicitors " even although they were within 6 miles of each other. And then letters seemed to get left on desks until we (or the other side) would gee them up. And we paid money for this?

Those are very lucky children to have so much love and attention and made to feel so special on their birthday.
I am becoming obsessed with fish and chips and at silly o'clock this morning I lay pondering about vinegar.
I like my chips liberally sprinkled with Sarson's malt vinegar, none of your poncy stuff.
I have a couple of friends who shudder at the thought so ,if in the past, we have shared a bowl I have to take my share out onto my plate to " douse" them.
A beautiful morning here and I am tasked with taking H to the dentist. I didn't tell him until after lunch yesterday and he has fretted and mithered about it ever since, it is only a checkup.

Off to the solicitors today with the 'war and peace' we had to complete . They certainly ask some questions. My favourite was where did you get the money to buy your property ... I wanted to write scrimping and saving

It is Super Dooper Cooper's 3rd birthday today - his mummy posted me this picture. We are popping in to see him to give him one of his presents. He has a party Saturday so we wanted to save the other one until then. I'm sure there will be pictures

Lovely picture Morethan. Your experience reminded me of a few years back when we had a factory next door. One afternoon the 2 grandchildren I was minding were playing out and came running in for a drink. Good job they did, because there was an almighty bang, and disgusting "stuff" came flying through the air, covering our yard plus the walls. A tanker clearing out slurry had shot off the lid on top and we got a full dose of everything! If the kids had still been out they`d have been covered in the vile smelling stuff.
I was grumbling about the power cut last night that lasted nearly an hour, turns out we were the lucky ones, my friend`s widower from the other side of the river said his didn`t come back on till 3.30pm this afternoon!

I've got the solicitor tomorrow to find out where I stand with my partner leaving. We are tenants in common as although this was my father's house, I stupidly signed over 35% to partner. I need to find out of he could prevent me selling this house if i cannot manage it. Feeling ? anxious.
