Our window cleaners - a very nice young man and his father - have taken on an apprentice who seems to be sent to do our windows with his very long pole.
Today I was out when he came, DH arrived home just as he was finishing and asking for the money saying he'd 'done the back' as well, including the conservatory.
DH didn't check.
the front ones are OK but someone must have been since and dirtied the back ones again.

Tomorrow morning MacS will be using the computer. His pal from the village has offered to help him set up a village website. Naturally I shall be forced to do housework. In the afternoon, I have to return to the surgery for some seriously awful prodding up my nethers.
Well, in between time, I hope to grab the computer to see what's been going on in the kitchen.
The sun is shining brightly. This morning's cloud and mizzle has dissipated. Thanks to a good soaking of rain, the grass has shot up.

Strangely enough, I saw a man with a long pole this morning when returning home. It was quite long, but not nearly as long as the yellow rubber thing on the end which snaked down the middle of the road. Fortunately that part wasn't too thick & most people were able to drive over it. I carried on walking & came to the end of the yellow bit which was throbbing quietly behind a van door! Personally I think the man was being a bit of an exhibitionist with so much of his tackle out on display.
Ought I to report it as a possible hazard to traffic or merely wonder what he charges
Long poles? So did ours in our last home, here its a bucket of grimy water and a mucky cloth. Give me a long pole any time . You aren't alone mawb, I thought if I bought Mr C one of those Karcher window cleaning whatsits he would so love it that he would clean the conservatory which is out of the remit of the window cleaner, a peril of living on a managed development, sadly this is not the case. Me use it? No, its not for me, I would cause some sort of damage within two minutes, not safe with machinery. You made me laught Oldgoat, that's the sort of thing I would do. Its pouring here today so no chance of noticing mucky windows, phew, one good thing about it anyway

Look here, you lot...I've been visiting the care home. Came into the kitchen for some peace and quiet. What do I find? Trillions of messages, that's what. Hang on while I try to catch up.
We've got a chap with a long pole that cleans the outside windows with double distilled water. One day recently I noticed that he hadn't made a very good job of the dining room window so I rang him up and told him. Imagine my shame when it turned out the marks were on the inside
. Funny, I'm sure I've cleaned them at least once this year. My old Mum told me that you can't clean windows when the sun is shining on them and that's the only time I notice that they need doing.

That's the problem with housework..you get the job done & then after a while it needs doing again!
I did our bedroom window on the seemingly one decent, warm day we had in April & it was scary just how much mouldy crud there was on the sill. I did it though - nobody noticed - I felt satisfaction at having done it, but not enough to do all the others - yet!

Feelingba bit of a slattern mucky pup! New window cleaner arrived today (the sort with a "long pole" if you know what I mean)
Previous window cleaner was pretty useless, used to go up a ladder which meant he never did the study and en suite windows because he claimed they were too hard to get at (!)
Anyway he hadn't been all over the Winter and hadn't reappeared in the Sprng so I found this other (2 man) company. They quoted me £15 over the phone but when they arrived today said my windows and sills were so bad they would be charging double for the first clean
TBH there was a lot of mould on the north facing sills which I could not get at, and it shows up on white window frames. But still.......... hanging my head in housewifely shame
Seriously, you have all my sympathy Charleygirl. It is the not knowing when or even if people are going to turn up the day they say they will, that is so draining.
We have made a conscious decision not to move in properly until all the inside work is done. Fortunately the old house is at right angles to the new one so we have somewhere to retreat to and still be near enough to keep an eye on things. DH has just phoned and said that this morning Manuel has been to finish fitting the photovoltaic panels on the roof but he has had to go shopping for some bits. Meanwhile The project manager turned up with Vasille, Basil, and 'some other bod' to work on the inside electrics again. I don't know how you have had the patience to live with work all around you and now that you seem to have someone you can trust to do it properly, he has serious knee problems. I hope he decides to finish your your work before he has to have the operation and convalescence.
Double cuff shirts are a pain, Ann and DH always loses his rag when putting links in. I do it for him, but when we went to the funeral in Wales and we were so late he had to get dressed in the back of the car, even I struggled and managed to put them in the wrong way round. I didn't notice until it was too late, but then no-one else noticed either! I think Elegran's idea is excellent. I shall be thinking about you both today.
Charley I really thought you would be out of the woods by now and I'm sure you did, too. I don't know if I would be able to cope with all the let downs you've had. You have to feel sorry for the guy but I would be tempted to sack him, get another builder in and make him foot the bill!
I have just returned from what I hope will be my last medical appointment for a while (if that's not tempting fate I don't know what is!). I had an ultrasound scan the week before last to try and find out what is causing flare ups with my reflux problem and the pain under my shoulder blade. It turns out there is no reason that they can find. He asked me if anything caused me anxiety. I told him that being shackled to one hospital or another since the middle of last year, for everything from the 'blip on the lip' (acknow Swanny) to my dodgy undercarriage, was enough to make anyone anxious . I now feel as if I am the one who is singlehandedly wasting the NHS's precious time and resources!
ann, I feel for you. It already is a trying day and I hope it goes better for you from now on.
