being very brave here and starting the new kitchen, not too hot here so I can manage the move OK

Charleygirl Fri 07-Jul-17 13:40:31

ann I keep suggesting to cornergran that she should move because the weather in London has been superb- 5 consecutive gorgeous days. Too hot yesterday for me but I prefer that to snow on the ground.

I would not like to be playing or even watching at Wimbledon these hot days- I prefer to be at home where I can have a coffee, cold drink or an icecream as I wish.

Pleased to hear that Purdey remembered she had been trained and not dragged up by being a good girl.

I would think that Tara is slumbering under a bush in a cool area. She has decided that the fan in the bedroom will not bite her and she may even get cool.

Once more I hope you get better news from the hospital Maw and hope the dog passes muster. I am sure he will be a joy in your life. My grand dog is visiting next weekend along with his staff!! A birthday treat for me.
Overcast and muggy here , the washing is hanging limply on the line.
Nothing cheery happening? hope all is ok for everyone and for the "poorlies" to improve.

NonnaW Fri 07-Jul-17 13:02:40

Freshly baked courgette & lime muffins anyone? I've also found a recipe for raspberry muffins which I may have a go at tomorrow. It's another use for the raspberries, having already made sorbet and a cordial from them. I have frozen a few for future use.

Hope all goes well with Freddie Maw, and hope Paw gets better soon. Soop, good news about Rory.

Purdey went to be groomed yesterday, she now looks very tidy and smells so much better! She behaved herself and didn't wriggle around like a box of eels as she usually does. Nor did she throw herself straight into the pond when she got back, which is a result.

Best wishes to all poorly people/pets.

Charleygirl Fri 07-Jul-17 09:32:35

Excuse me Swanny, us lot mad, please just speak for yourself.

Maw good to hear that Paw is sounding a bit better today. The heat is certainly not helping him.

I slept like a baby last night, heaven knows what the temperature was. The fan was on low and I placed a dressing gown over myself. Tara was in and out of my bedroom, enjoying the fan and then getting too cold so moving just outside the bedroom door.

I agree, I do hope that your undercarriage can be at least helped soop, that Rory had a good night's sleep and joined you both for cuddles this am. Good to know that Rory knew more than the vet.

Another roasting day here but as I am not working I am not complaining. I do not have to do anything. having done an on line shop 2 days ago.

Gagagran Fri 07-Jul-17 08:53:15

Well it is joyful news about Rory - he obviously has some of his nine lives in reserve still. "Hurrah" say all of us! It is the care and love lavished upon him by our soop and McSporran that has saved him again I am sure.

How did your GP visit go soop? If they can't sort out your undercarriage problems properly, can they at least find a way to alleviate them? Seems unreasonable for you just to have to soldier on.

I think Freddie looks amazing maw - hope you get him home (and paw too) and manage some time to get to know him and vice-versa. Keep your pecker up - you are an inspiration to many of us as you get through the "day to day living" with such fortitiude. flowers

I've left another large jug of Pimms in the fridge for anyone in need of refreshment - help yourselves!

MawBroon Fri 07-Jul-17 08:40:13

As you say kittyl there always seems to be something.
I am assured that if Paw were transferred to London e.g.this weekend and I felt I could not cope with visiting and was giving Freddie a bad start etc, the kennels will keep him for perhaps a week and not give him to another home sad
But if all is unchanged I will just take the plunge as I have a good friend who will come in and see to him (in any case I probably wouldn't go to London every day, I find it too knackering) Worst case scenario would be the local kennels but Paw has just rung me and is sounding more positive and cheerful than he has all week smile
I think I am feeling a bit of recoil (?) now though if that is the right word a bit weepy this morning, my life in danger of spiralling out of control again (?) and am reminded of this quote from Chekhov that I once read
"Any idiot can face a crisis, it's day to day living that wears you out"
Awake too early, time for another mug of brew

kittylester Fri 07-Jul-17 07:18:21

Morning all - it doesn't do to miss a day in the kitchen - there is far too much to catch up on.

Maw, so sorry to hear about Paw. Pleased to hear about Freddie. What will you do about Freddie if Paw us transferred. There is always something, isn't there?

Make sure you look after yourself. I've been awake since sun up as we slept with the velux open and the sun rises just in the bottom gap. angry

soop - fabulous news! wine How was the visit to the gp?

gd I feel your tile pain! I can still remember the trailing round, the bickering etc. It will look great when it's finished.brew

Hipsy and Daisy, welcome. The kitchen is a lovely place - just don't leave it too long between visits or it is very difficult to keep up.grin

Take care everyone. I hope it cools down, I have a marathon baking session to do this afternoon.

MawBroon Fri 07-Jul-17 05:25:45

Trouble is shouting "Pollux"!(?) .......
Good middle of the night morning kitchen. Is anybody else waking before 5 like me? I am NOT amused.
Paw is still poorly and was feeling it last night. It may be connected with his liver and he has fluid in his abdomen (ascites) Removing a large syringeful yesterday was very unpleasant for him despite my best hand squeezing. I wonder if they will want to transfer him to London? ☹️☹️ Fortunately the air con in the ward means he is much more comfortable than he would be at home. The last couple of nights have been suffocating.

Swanny Thu 06-Jul-17 23:51:01

Nelliemoser One you can comfortably shout out of the back door. I remember hearing of someone who called her 2 cats after the stars which made up the sign of Gemini - Castor and Pollux ... grin

Nelliemoser Thu 06-Jul-17 23:42:02

Hello all. It's good to get a preview of Maws new dog. Freddie is a lovely name. One you can comfortably shout out of the back door.
I hope all goes well when you get him home.
I was cheered to hear that Rory seemed much better today. It is a good sign that he is eating and seems comfortable. You cannot really wish any more for him.

annodomini Thu 06-Jul-17 23:28:00

Oh! Did someone mention tiramisu? Hipsy you are already a great asset to the kitchen! Welcome indeed.
MawB, I hope Freddie passes the Flynn and Basil test. You need him!

Swanny Thu 06-Jul-17 22:44:23

Hipsy welcome to the sanest place on earth!! We're all mad but in a non-aggressive manner grin

Tiramisu always reminds me of a restaurant balcony in the hills of Southern Spain, looking down the valley to the Mediterranean Sea. They made the best Tiramisu I've ever drooled over. It was even worth putting up with the poor company I had on that visit grin

Crafting Thu 06-Jul-17 22:34:27

hipsy my DH would like you to move in! Tiramisu is his absolute favourite all time dessert, he would eat it all day every day if he could (got any going spare? smile)

MawBroon Thu 06-Jul-17 22:33:28

Lovely news Soop there is life in the old cat yet!! Go, Rory!

Greyduster Thu 06-Jul-17 20:22:19

Tiramisu! ??

Hipsy Thu 06-Jul-17 20:01:36

Thanks for the warm welcome. I make a mean Tiramisu cupcake

Charleygirl Thu 06-Jul-17 17:50:38

soop that is fabulous news- I am sure that it was a bad muscle strain and he is now almost back to normal. He is a well behaved and very well loved young man and he knows it.

Greyduster Thu 06-Jul-17 17:43:39

Has anyone got a large G&T they are not using at the moment? I am seriously fed up of looking at tile samples which look stunning in the showroom and look 'meah' when you get them in your bathroom. I know exactly what I want - I just can't bring it together. My plumber is going on holiday next week and then he wants to start. He hasn't a prayer. Can't order the cabinets until we sort the tiles. DH doesn't like what I like, and I don't like what he likes. Impasse. I am also mad with him because we got a renewal notice for the maintenance contract on the dishwasher and he got very uppity when he saw it had gone up 20% since last year. He took issue with them - and then cancelled it! I then told him that if we needed to call out an engineer we would pay eighty pounds before he even picked a spanner up. He said I should have told him that before he cancelled it. I said I didn't know he was going to cancel it!! Sod's law states that the machine will now go spectacularly wrong at the first opportunity! ?
Soop I am delighted for you that Rory is feeling more like his old self.
Corner I fear that the only dog I will be taking for a walk will be the one hanging off my Radley handbag - and he doesn't get out of his kennel much these days!
Hipsy, welcome to the kitchen!

cornergran Thu 06-Jul-17 17:34:37

Hello, hipsy. Sounds like you are bringing another dog to make me envious. Yours too, moomin, lovely girl that she is. envy.

Understand the tears, soop, your Rory is a toughie that's for sure.

Fingers crossed that Freddie passes the Basil and Flynn test maw , he will look very smart in those coats.

Just a quick visit, need to cook supper for our friends. It's been a lovely time but oh so tiring. Never mind, I can sleep on Sunday grin.

soop Thu 06-Jul-17 16:50:51

I'm away to watch more tennis. A pot of tea and a comfy chair and I shall be in heaven. Rory is keeping watch in the garden. I cannot stop grinning.

soop Thu 06-Jul-17 16:49:13

Welcome, Hipsy The kitchen door is always open and us lot hope that you'll continue to join us. Do you by any chance bake fab cakes? flowers

Moomin Another elegant dog to join the pet picture gallery.

callgirl1 We know where Brambles is...just across the road from The George. Yay!
Said hello to David when I went to the doc's surgery yesterday.

callgirl1 Thu 06-Jul-17 15:54:39

Oh sorry, Welcome to the kitchen Hipsy!

callgirl1 Thu 06-Jul-17 15:52:56

Lovely dog Moomin. I`d like to echo all those sentiments about greyhounds/whippets/lurchers, we had a beautiful lurcher many years ago, a better natured dog you couldn`t have hoped to find.
Soop, there`s just no describing how happy and relieved your post made me feel. Onward and upward Rory!
Mia is looking decidedly scruffy these days, so I scheduled her for a bath today, seeing as it`s still hot and sunny. But when the Acorn man arrived to service the stair lift she scarpered, hasn`t been seen since!

Hipsy Thu 06-Jul-17 15:47:50

Good afternoon folk.Lost my way on the forum and have managed to stumble into the kitchen by the look of things.
Cannot leave without adding congratulations to Maw on her new addition. What a gorgeous boy.
I have a rescue Lurcher and would like to say to anyone thinking of getting greyhound/whippet/lurcher rescue-do it! They have a gentle ,faithful character and mine has most definitely enhanced my life in every way
Sorry for gatecrashing-should have knocked smile

moomin Thu 06-Jul-17 15:11:03

Love Freddie Maw he looks like a winner in every sense! Hope it all works out and he passes his test with flying colours. I know how it feels to have a greyhound shaped space in the house. Tegan they don't have to be large, ours is 25 kilos and quite petite but I doubt she could negotiate a cat flap.

Soop - fingers crossed for Rory, he's a fighter
