soop what splendid news! I don't envisage being a great grandmother either, but I can imagine how excited you must be!
swanny I can imagine how your GS and his classmates must have felt. My GS's class felt the same when they were told that the end of term treat they had voted for was not to be forthcoming because of funding difficulties. They got together and decided to have a table top sale after school yesterday to raise their own funds! It was a bit of a dogs breakfast, but fair play for them they did make some money (I donated some books and DH bought one of them back for an eye wateringly ridiculous amount because he's a big softie!!). There seemed to be more bartering going on than straight exchange of funds! The headmistress said she was very proud of them all for their entrepreneurial spirit!
Kitty I'm glad you enjoyed Seb's performance in his school play. I hope he enjoyed himself! Where would we be if we could not enjoy and take pride in their achievements?
Maw onward and upward with Paw I hope. Fingers crossed that he will be more comfortable after his procedure.
N&G I'm so glad you and your sister had a good girlie lunch. I miss that, having lost both my sisters, who I was very close to, even though they were much older than me. We had fun. I am sure you are a huge source of support to each other. The pictures of the boys are absolutely priceless! My face would be a picture too if I'd pranged a Maserati! ?
We have just got back from having tea with DD and her menfolk. It was nice to be able to spend some time just chatting with her, as our get togethers seem to have been brief recently for one reason or another. She seems less stressed now than she has been since her redundancy in March. She has volunteered to do some unpaid work at GS's school after the holidays, to help them out in the office. They offered an apprenticeship in office skills to a school leaver but had such a poor response - of those they invited for interview, one turned up who didn't want to do it, and the rest, it seemed, couldn't even be bothered to turn up! You couldn't make it up could you?
DH won a football from the club he supports, in a raffle, signed by Sean Bean, who also supports the club. He offered it to my son who is going to auction it at a charity event he is involved in for The Teenage Cancer Trust. I hope it raises them some money. Don't know what on earth we would have done with it anyway!

NanaandGrampy Thu 20-Jul-17 19:46:18

Maw I told Jackson about the Maserati .

Please see pictures for his response.

He also said ( and I quote) , maybe he needs to go on a better driver course .

:-)

Oh my goodness Congratulations soop & Macs ! Great grandparents !! What wonderful news. Congratulations to the new parents too. How exciting to be starting out on their journey.

One and a half ltrs sounds like Paw is being drained !! Hope the procedure is making him feel better though.

Lunch was lovely. This is my youngest sister and we really don't do this often enough. We had a good chat and I understand her unhappiness a little better but the only solution is not one she's prepared to take.

I struggle with her decision because I KNOW I could not waste my life living with such unhappiness and especially not for what are basically financial reasons. But we're different people so I can only respect her choices and offer a sounding board.

The house move Kitty is dead in the water. The buyers have to sign a form and pay for their searches and still they make excuses. I've lost all faith in them now . So I think as of Monday we will take the house off the market, confirm it to the man we were buying from and take 6 months off. We need to regroup .

Sounds like you enjoyed the concert Kitty , isn't it heart warming to see them doing so well.

Grampy first day of his restricted diet has turned him into Grumpy ! I think the next few days will be taxing ! Shame he's not allowed lamb ????

Jalima1108 Thu 20-Jul-17 19:35:11

SIL ran into the back of an Uber taxi at a roundabout (at about 4 miles an hour, so the Uber drivers claim for whiplash is a bit of a fraud try on)
shock this happened to DD at a roundabout when the woman in front suddenly stopped for no reason - got out clutching her neck saying she had 'only just got over one lot of whiplash'. hmm The insurance companies thrashed it out, I think it went to court.

How exciting soop - I don't think we will ever become great-grandparents as we are very elderly grandparents. Great news and congratulations to all!

Maw hope all is still going better with Paw and that you feel better now too - no more sushi for you! (sushi = shudder for me!).

To everyone else, hope you are all OK - oh, that is a wonderful car N&G - a prototype of the future. A talent that will need nurturing.

Please eat all the cupcake and biscuits, I am trying desperately to lose a few pounds.

Iam64 Thu 20-Jul-17 19:24:18

What exciting news soop. Congratulations to all
Maw, that's great news
X

MawBroon Thu 20-Jul-17 18:01:15

Lovely news Soop thrilled for you!
Paw had his drain fitted today unfortunately he was being wheeled out of the ward just as DD1 (who had driven down from Birmingham) and I arrived but she managed 10 minutes with him after before she had to drive back to pick up the boys from school.
All went smoothly and 1 1/2 litres had been drained off by the time I left an hour or so later (!) Hope that makes him more comfortable.
I think I am back to normal and will be more careful about what I eat in future!
I hope N&G 's sisters problems will have benefited from being shared - sometimes it is hard to know who you can offload to, apart from here of course.

kittylester Thu 20-Jul-17 17:55:59

I've missed a day too, Maw. I do hope that DH has had his procedure and feels better for it.

Soop and MacS - whooppee!!! wine how lovely.

N&G, I hope you found your sister in a happier frame of mind. I'm sure she knows you are there for her. I DO envy people who have sisters - it must be great, brothers are just not the same. Hope lunch was good. Have you made a house move decision yet?

The reason I was missing was because we went to see 10 year old Seb in a school play - it was brilliant and a real credit to the children and staff. It is a shame when children are let down corner as they often don't give their best either and it is a worry for their parents.

Swanny, that was such a disappointment for your DGS. sad

Seb was fantastic (well, I would say that wouldn't I?) His part was actually small (he's not a natural), his best friend, however, is a real star. He was having a whale of a time singing and dancing with his huge smile. I had to remind myself to watch my grandson not his friend.

I had a filling replaced at the dentist today. He informed me that the tooth should now last me as long as I need it - how does he know? confused

soop Thu 20-Jul-17 17:47:24

callgirl The hire of a mobility scooter is a very sensible idea. Near Dunoon is a marvellous place to visit...Benmore Gardens. One of the loveliest we've visited in Scotland.

Thank you for your happy response to the baby news. I shall do my best not to bore you. hmm We shall see. wink

Care home visit in the morning. Will look forward to getting back with you early afternoon. smile moon

callgirl1 Thu 20-Jul-17 15:53:52

CONGRATULATIONS to the soon to be new great grandparents.......and to the mum and dad to be, of course!
Maw, sorry you`ve been out of sorts, hope you`re feeling better today.
The hotel where we`ll be staying in Inverary have given me a phone number to try re mobility scooter hire, apparently nobody in Inverary does it, the place they`ve suggested is in Dunoon, hopefully they can be of some help.

Swanny Thu 20-Jul-17 13:28:05

soop fantastic news! Congratulations to the soon-to-be-parents and flowers for you two x

Swanny Thu 20-Jul-17 13:27:49

cornergran thanks for your kind words. Yes, severe end-of-term-itis all round I think, certainly in this family. DGS and schoolmates were supposed to be having a picnic in the park this morning - after making their own sandwiches first hmm I do hope they were able to get there as we had rain first thing and it's been threatening more all morning. This was hastily arranged in lieu of the non-participation in sports day yesterday ...

soop Thu 20-Jul-17 13:12:56

Several failed attempts to upload messages yesterday afternoon. Did anyone else have difficulties?

That was a kind and caring message, cornergran.

Maw Please update us with Paw's treatment. It's a positive sign that he was in good spirits. Nurse Robot has a good bedside manner. wink

Baggs You've managed your broken arm with aplomb. It's a pity that the tartan dress and orange tights didn't get an outing at Mum's birthday bash.

Nana A sister can be of great comfort in times of stress.

I'm longing to share some splendid news with you lot...granddaughter Lauren and her lovely new husband are to become parents in January. Oooer...we shall then be great grandparents. They were engaged for five years and Lauren will have been pregnant at the wedding. Everyone is thrilled for them.

cornergran Thu 20-Jul-17 08:48:19

I don't know if this impacts you, swanny but our older two have serious end-of-term-itis which appears to be contageous as I have it too smile. A mix of over activity and exhaustion. I'm also disappointed for your grandson and his schoolmates, it's natural we react to their issues. Was at a school event yesterday and found myself being very irritated because the fscilities provided for the children let them down and their hard work was not as well presented as it should have been. It all matters so much to them and also to their parents and grandparents. Hope you feel brighter now. It is important for us to care for ourselves, otherwise how can we care for them?

I'm sure you will be a great support to your sister, n&g, hard not to worry about family, isn't it? Maybe good timing with Grampy, hope his diet isn't too restricted.

Best be off, should be sorting here and hunting the dust down. Take care everyone.

Tizliz Thu 20-Jul-17 08:38:28

hipsy I was really scratching my head the other day as to what my pc password was, why did I put a password in I asked myself. Then I realised - I did not add one and I just had to hit return. Old age.

MawBroon Thu 20-Jul-17 08:35:07

It s always nice to hear of a "real" Gransnetters (even better a Kitchener) winning GN prizes. So often it seems some people join for the sole purpose of the competitions,
Sorry I didn't check in yesterday I felt so awful after the night of thunderstorms (despite no dog to worry about) when I slept really badly, griping stomach pains and a crashing headache then diarrhoea all day. I blame the sushi I bought for Tuesday's supper as I had had a craving for something instant/ tasty/ and not bread based. Not a good move.
Paw was in good spirits yesterday but needs constant oxygen and sometimes Salbutamol. They didn't fit the drain sad so hopefully it will be today as I wonder if the abdominal fluid is reducing his lung function.
SIL looked in on his way back from London to Birmingham which also perked him up. Tell Jackson that the Maserati is at the doctors after SIL ran into the back of an Uber taxi at a roundabout (at about 4 miles an hour, so the Uber drivers claim for whiplash is a bit of a fraud try on) I cannot imagine what his insurance is as 3 years ago he managed to coast into a tree on their street when he hit a patch of ice -again barely moving. It makes me feel better about my assorted scratches from bushes and hedges which jump out at me.
DD and Pippa are coming down later this morning (better get UP) and the whole Brum family are coming on Sunday so Hattie is going to have to wait till Monday now ? ☹️ as I want her to have a quiet start here -not 3 rumbustious DGCs!
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

NanaandGrampy Thu 20-Jul-17 08:05:22

Morning all,

A Flying visit this morning from me.

I am off to take my youngest daughter to the salon first thing, then a trip to Aldi ( for their chocolate desserts- 39p of heaven !!)

Then my sister is popping up for lunch. Grampy sadly, cannot attend because he's on a special diet until a medical apt on Monday . So he and Sam will be staying home alone !!

It will be good just to be my sister and I. I want to have a chat . She seems so unhappy and has done for a few years now . We don't get the chance just to be the 2 of us very often so I'm going to try and find out what's going on - I suspect its all about her marriage .

I don't know if I can help but I can just offer some support.

Anyway, hope its less humid where you are , that Paw is progressing well and Charley has rushed out and bought new book shelves :-) x

Swanny Wed 19-Jul-17 18:41:08

Thanks soop, Greyduster and N&G for your kind words. I was feeling rather low yesterday. I normally try to keep smiling, being positive and there for others no matter what. It's what mums and grandmas do isn't it? I'm a great one for telling others to look after themselves as well, but am not good at taking my own advice grin

Swanny Wed 19-Jul-17 18:31:49

Congratulations to Posh and Charley on your winnings. Those biscuits sound delicious, I shall have to look out for something similar. As for a whole box of books, I would think C****** had come very early grin

callgirl1 Wed 19-Jul-17 17:56:22

I lay awake for a good part of last night, so was aware of the lightening, silent for a while until the thunder started rumbling. It wasn`t directly overhead though, so I wasn`t worried, I did close the window though in case it bucketed down after I went to sleep.
Hopefully Paw is feeling a little better today.
Charleygirl, I`m GREEN with envy! At least you`ll not be short of something to read for a while.
I`m trying, without much success so far, to find somewhere to hire a mobility scooter from when we are up in Scotland next April.

Hipsy Wed 19-Jul-17 16:26:29

All this talk of biscuits Will have to decline as I,m slimming for DS2 wedding in September!
Soop Will take you up on your offer as soon as I can get into my i-pad. It,s asking me who my favorite superhero is.Wont let me in otherwise. That most certainly was not one of my security questions. Is it me??

Baggs Wed 19-Jul-17 16:24:05

That's a fabulous car, n&g! I hope you tell Jackson your granny pals love it smile.

Scan went fine and the radiologist thanked me for being well prepared (wearing pull-on bra and trousers so that I didn't need to strip). My GP will get the results in a couple of weeks, at about the time my stookie is removed. If he doesn't contact me about the scan I'll presume everything is fine (yes, he's that good).

Hope paw's procedure went well today.

NanaandGrampy Wed 19-Jul-17 16:19:21

Just seen your post about the books Charley Many congratulations . You deserve a treat after the last months DIY disaster x

NanaandGrampy Wed 19-Jul-17 16:18:07

That's Cooper in the background Charley on his motorbike smile - shortly after the picture was taken he fell off his bike and got a big graze on his knee and elbow . Very sorry for himself !!

NanaandGrampy Wed 19-Jul-17 16:16:54

Its the same here Charley - headache weather x

Charleygirl Wed 19-Jul-17 16:13:07

I had two biscuits earlier- I had to clear out the tin to wash it- I could not throw them out could I?!

A muggy miserable day here- I should not complain, the hot weather will return.
