I use ChatGPT for emails. I also use Siri and Alexa. I have never read the small print re data etc , probably no better or worse than Gransnet.

The reason I checked out ChatGPT was after a friend told me about it. She has dyslexia but is also secretary of a club and has to take minutes. She's very self conscious about her spelling and grammar. She enters in what she has written and asks that it be turned into more formal language and hey presto it churns out perfect minutes.

I find the whole AI thing scary. There is a Facebook page where people post photos and ask for changes to be made. One person posted a picture of their special needs child in bed attached to all sorts of medical equipment, and asked if anyone could do anything with it, and somebody created a film of the child removing all the tubes, then standing up smiling and walking away. Just another way we can’t believe what we see!

AI thinks my OH is a world famous shoemaker (he is not), then when asked about what he actually does AI said ‘and he is famous for that as well’ . Doesn’t give me much faith in AI’s abilities.

When you’re choosing an AI, look for one that respects privacy — that means it keeps your information safe and doesn’t share it without permission. Also, good AI should be clear about what it can and cannot do, so you don’t get tricked or confused.

Using AI responsibly means checking the facts it gives you and not believing everything it says right away. AI can make mistakes or be biased, just like people.

In the end, AI is a tool — a powerful one — but it’s up to us to use it wisely. Choosing the right AI and using it carefully can help us all get the best out of this new technology.

Am very impressed as you say that you’re 93 years old! Can’t be many of that age to be so enthusiastic about using AI.

ChatGPT is brilliant.

I’m already using it to compile my weekly menu - putting the the parameters I want. So this week I asked for a menu based on the countries of the world. It gives me a shopping list to go with it.

I have just asked for ideas for plants that compliment salvia kisses and wishes with dahlia crème de cassis. Lots of choice and ideas.

I’ve also asked it to plan a new bed in the garden. It has given me the actual plan plus planting list plus seasonal care etc.

It is going to put so many people out of a job!!!

I particularly like the way one can get back to ChatGPT and say for instance "No I did not mean that , could you please tell me instead about -"
Or ask ChatGPT to say the information using easier language for instance. Google is better in respect of more up to date info. as Google has a continuous input from the internet crawler and does not have to rely on training.

Same here,Aveline.

I've been having fun with ChatGPT recently. Apart from more frivolous queries it's answered with some very useful and well presented info.

Has anyone outside the company checked how fair or private their AI is?
📚Do they explain what data they use and what the AI is for?
🔒Do they clearly promise to protect your data?
🚨Can you easily report problems or mistakes?
📰What do journalists or consumer groups say about them?
