Has anyone outside the company checked how fair or private their AI is?
📚Do they explain what data they use and what the AI is for?
🔒Do they clearly promise to protect your data?
🚨Can you easily report problems or mistakes?
📰What do journalists or consumer groups say about them?

Ah yes ,the duty to oneself remain creative until one's last gasp. I am all for it Allira. Good work and never say die. However, isn't there also a case for prudence ?

I ve never used AI it doesn’t feel right to me as it’s not me the same with photography I love taking Photos, often from unusual angles but if I was to use photoshop it wouldn’t be my photo
I may as well sit watching tv and say write me a poem about happiness … but it’s not mine is it
I agree Mt61 everything nowadays smells of cheating

I've been using Chatgtp for a few economics posts here on Gnet because I'm pretty sure that it has been widely 'trained' enough to do a decent analysis of the topic. It saves me having to follow loads of links and pull the research together. I always say if part of a post is AI generated.

But I am wary of it. Apparently, for example, the twitter (X) AI is trained on tweets... which produces some very strange (and frightening) 'explanations.

And, AI is renowned for 'hallucinating' (i.e making things up). I have no idea which ones are guilty, but it does things like cite completely fictitious research papers. 😱

Aely, sorry

Just a word of warning, Aelt and Caleo. I tore the meniscus in my knee carrying full, heavy watering cans up garden steps!!

Old age is such fun.

It's a perennial problem how elderly people can keep brainminds in good working order.

Not only watering cans but also dancing, Tai Chi, house cleaning, even flower arranging and so forth are too much for failing physical powers.
Anyway your sense of humour is in good order. Mine fell into desuetude years ago. I did just check the word on ChatGPT as I have nevev in my life used the word before.

I use AI a lot. I am confident that I use it for information retrieval not for forming my opinions. For instance this morning I asked ChatGPT for information about the justice system in Arabia before and after Muhammad. ChatAI disagreed with the term 'vendetta' and explained to my satisfaction why the term was not entirely appropriate. I stood corrected about a matter of information

I have noticed that weight change too, Allira. I have even had to switch from a 2 gallon bucket to a 1 gallon when I cart my bath water downstairs to the garden. Hills have been getting steeper too.

Mt61

I’d rather try & write my thoughts & feelings, than depend on AI.
Some of the grans write so eloquently, hopefully not down to AI.

Some posters can tell immediately if a bot has started a thread!

I noticed that, I wonder how they do it.

I tested the legal advice given with some obscure and difficult questions. The answers on chatGPT were accurate and well written.
Another profession that could lose out.

There are some professions where knowledge can be got by parroting knowledge, I wonder if the law is such as profession. Medicine for instance can't be taught by AI as medicine is art and well as science.

I think it’s cheating to some extent.

Just chatting about this last night and a friend said that he'd entered a document for fun and asked that it be rewritten in the style of Billy Connolly! Apparently the result was brilliant.shock

AI certainly helps to clear away any mental weeds, Allira. The questionable bit is 'Is it not even better to keep your own evaluations in good working order by own efforts".

Do you mean to imply that actually getting down to effortful real digging in the soil and so forth helps learning about the plants? If so that point is worth debating. I bet ChatGPT would debate it without bias!

ChatGPT is brilliant.

I’m already using it to compile my weekly menu - putting the the parameters I want. So this week I asked for a menu based on the countries of the world. It gives me a shopping list to go with it.

I have just asked for ideas for plants that compliment salvia kisses and wishes with dahlia crème de cassis. Lots of choice and ideas.

I’ve also asked it to plan a new bed in the garden. It has given me the actual plan plus planting list plus seasonal care etc.

It is going to put so many people out of a job!!!

You are adventurous!

If it's Friday it's fish, if it's Tuesday it's a different fish 😁

Let me know if AI plants the bed out for you then keeps it watered - I might be interested.

The reason I checked out ChatGPT was after a friend told me about it. She has dyslexia but is also secretary of a club and has to take minutes. She's very self conscious about her spelling and grammar. She enters in what she has written and asks that it be turned into more formal language and hey presto it churns out perfect minutes.

My Consultant asked me if I minded if he used AI to record our consultation. He said it would record it, précis it and make a concise record then the rest would be deleted. It would save him scribbling notes as we talked.
I did say it would be fine but I'm wondering if the conversation was deleted altogether.

I understand that would be the very best and most ethical reason to use AI. ChatGPT for instance specialises in synthesising language.

Your friend must be an excellent secretary!

Yes Oreo, to date my brain is healthy, and I know I 'm very lucky.

Elowen, all AI machines are potentially more dangerous than Gransnet.

For instance at Gransnet a poster can ask a question , anything from "What is the difference between communism and socialism" to " Best way to clean bathroom tiles" to "AIBU to fear my controlling daughter?"
The Grans who answer are not paid to answer as they do, so each answer is genuine. But an AI machine is owned by people who may have a financial interest in the reply their machine gives you.
This is why it's best to ask the AI machine what its ethics are., and why. Some AI machines are trained to give more ethical answers.
