Surely I’m not dead? I thought I would survive
I’d hate to see my parents faces when they realise I’m not alive
I got a fancy funeral with kings and queens galore
I tell myself, “I was chosen by mistake, there’s someone who’s worth more”
It’s strange, they buried me with kings, now I’m really quite well-known
The real Royal family have stood right by my stone
I don’t think I’m just one late soldier, forgotten in the past
I represent each one, first to die and the last
Oh. The dying. The pain. The shouts. The screams.
Those poor men, never to achieve their dreams
It’s quite strange – I classify as one of those late soldiers
But I don’t feel like one, I’m still a young boy, riding on my dad’s shoulders
I’m not a topic in a lesson of history
Not some great big mystery…
I’m me. An ordinary, simple guy
A guy….who just happened to die
The last thing I remember is my very own yell
That last sound, last second…right before I fell.
