Brrrr - What are you doing to keep warm

It really feels like winter now. What happened to that mild weather? Set to hover around freezing for the rest of the week at least.
Apart from lots of thin but warm layers and hot drinks what else to do?
Just about to go round and make sure all upstairs curtains closed and doors shut, which reduces heat loss.
I have ordered more fleecy blankets from Zara home sale. And some new merino gloves from the outdoor shop.
Sit with laptop on knees instead of table...
I have also bought a fan heater so that if I am at home I can just heat the room I am in, instead of whole 3 stories.
Other thoughts on keeping warm?

I am staying with my friend in Switzerland. Yesterday we went to Zurich on the train and had lunch in a very posh hotel (very expensive too!). I had dressed for the -12C temperature, and had forgotten that my fleecy top had a hole in the sleeve. The flunky who took my coat must have thought we were eccentric millionaires. I was wearing knickers, tights, leggings, thick trousers, possum-wool socks and knee length fur-lined boots. I had to remember to pull every layer up when I went to the loo. I was also wearing knee bandages and supports as we walked all round the historic part of the town and along the shores of Lake Zurich.
Today, I am going to learn to do cross-country skiing. I will be wearing my thermal long johns under my trousers.
It is a bright, sunny day today, and it looks lovely with the very thick snow under the blue sky. It did take me half an hour to dig out my car before I left home yesterday, but I find that exercise makes me very warm.

It must be cold here in S W France. The 10-12 year old boys have been knocking on doors and running away. But not tonight as it is already -5C.

Oh yes I see Bagitha very pretty weather map.

just realised earlier posting did not make sense either... doh

Yes thank you Ariadne . Emerging from a couple of weeks of slightly hermit like head down trying to finish that darn book.
But last night was out seeing Ballet Boyz - impressive dancing. And then 2 meetings this morning. Time to wake myself up...

It is so cold here that I have gone 'all Sheltand' as my pal would say. Thick wide warm shawl wrapped around the neck and upper arms, crossed over my bosom and tied at the back. Beautifully warm and very comfortable, with room for movement.

Now I know why it was such a vital item of clothing!

Ariadne Thu 02-Feb-12 17:29:39

Oh, that's OK then - thought it was me unable to decipher! You All right, JessM? Art from being befuddled, that is? (Like me.) smile

bagitha Thu 02-Feb-12 17:28:04

Ah.

Have you looked at the link I posted this morning? It's really pretty (might use it for textile inspiration) as well as being a continuation of the thread theme of brrrr.

A little tired is all thank you. I read OGM's post which had your name in it and I knew you had asthma so my brain joined the wrong dots... Not so weird really.

bagitha Thu 02-Feb-12 17:01:23

I hope you are feeling quite well.

bagitha Thu 02-Feb-12 17:01:06

Very weird.

bagitha Thu 02-Feb-12 17:00:39

And what has S Wales to do with a picture of temps across France?

Baffled.

bagitha Thu 02-Feb-12 16:59:41

Pardon? What has south Wales to do with me, jess, except that Hub was born there?

JessM Thu 02-Feb-12 15:20:28

We have always found P Talbot steelworks a useful deterrent that helps to keep places further west a fairly well kept secret Bagitha. It is nothing like as noxious these days. If the world at large wants to keep believing s wales an industrial wasteland then fine. Though i am sure those who work in tourism would appreciate more business...

Just been out for a walk in freezing wind and bright sun. Kept warm in my wonderful Lands End squall coat - it only comes out about six times a year, but is worth every penny. Apart from that am keeping warm carrying up wood for the log burner.

jeni Thu 02-Feb-12 14:41:32

Ogm no it wasn't! That one is yellow. This one was the "rosy fingered dawn"

Oldgreymare Thu 02-Feb-12 14:14:32

P.S. Keeping warm wearing over the knee socks over tights and lots of layers. Oh and the thought of warmed up up Lobscaws ( always better the next day) and a steamed syrup duff!!!

Oldgreymare Thu 02-Feb-12 14:06:55

Bagitha, I also loved the link, now I know why I would winter in Nice if funds allowed!!!
JeniI'm afraid the pink haze over Wales is all the muck from the Swansea Bay chemical works! The OG's parents lived in Port Talbot, when we went to visit I always needed a few extra puffs on the old inhaler. YUK! sad

jeni Thu 02-Feb-12 13:44:35

Thanks glass. Just gone online(lunch break) and ordered aload for delivery tomorrow! Extra charge but who cares? I'm COLD.

Jeni love the thought of whales smile Have a good day at work, hope they are still there on your journey home!

jeni Thu 02-Feb-12 09:45:40

Too early in the morning for me! Judge has not arrived yet! At least I'm on the warm side of the building today.

JessM Thu 02-Feb-12 09:39:33

We Welsh wish we did have more Wales, but they don't often make it up the BC smile

MaggieP Thu 02-Feb-12 09:32:01

I saw a few snowflakes falling this morning here in Norfolk but now the sun is coming out.

Annobel Thu 02-Feb-12 08:50:42

Whales, jeni, in the Bristol Channel?
