How do you deal with these? Mostly, I ignore them along with the age spots, but I have one under my arm and it catches on my bra. I have tied white cotton round the base in the hope that it will drop off. I had one removed at my doctor's minor procedures surgery because that was also catching on my underwear, but I would rather avoid sitting in the waiting room with people coughing and sneezing all around me.
I realise this is only a minor problem - just an inconvenience really, but it can be quite painful when it pulls.

I think it probaly is a GP job. I found I have deterred mine from growing by regular exfoliation and moisturising ( I have a few under the bra line).

I have them occasionally, too, Greatnan! In fact, I've just had a quick check and notice that the underarm one that I had that kept catching on my bra, is now shrinking away. If the tag is big enough, I tie thread tightly around it, but if it's small and becoming inflamed because of getting caught on clothing, I put a small plaster on it for a couple of days. That seems to help 'diminish' it. smile

Thanks, gmg, I have put a plaster over the tag and left the cotton round it.

Are we talking about something that looks like a mole, feels like a mole but is not fully attached to the skin?? hmm

I have something like this that also catches my bra, on my back ...it can be very painful when it happens ...if it is a 'skin tag' what causes them? are they dangerous? confused

I've had them since I was young! I remember the doctor telling my me to tie thread round it, and it would drop off (which it always did) - the rest of the class thought it hilarious when I had a particularly large one on the side of my neck and had a rather grubby bit of cotton looped round it....the tails of the knot hanging limply. No, they're not dangerous, but obviously if something changes with anything resembling a mole, you should get it checked.

Moles are flat - I have plenty of them too! - but these tags are literally just tiny bits of excess skin which seem to form in old age.

I think they are common on skin where clothing rubs such as around neck and bra area, especially as we get older. The cotton thread thing works for me.

Cotton thread has always worked fine for me too.

I get them under my arms so not easy to do the cotton trick. Painting the tag with clear polish is supposed to work... I find it works sometimes. Every now and then I get totally annoyed by one and just rub ice over it and then snip it off with nail scissors. Makes your eyes water and you get the shakes but it does work and they don't bleed that much.

I was bothered with several skin tags around the neck. I have them all over my upper body but these interfered with my jewellery, so I mentioned it to my GP towards the end of an appt for something else. He just pulled out a gadget that zapped them and that was that. The affected areas were a bit tender for a couple of days but it was "job done" with no fuss. (Wish I could be more specific about what he used and how it worked but it happened so fast, I didn't notice.) I have more in other areas lined up for next visit!

5 yr old grandson has one right at the end of his nose!! it last grew to about 1/4 inch long...he had it burnt off with laser first time..but being young he wouldnt sit still long enough so it grew back...it came off during the night a few weeks ago..made a right mess blood everywhere!!...I noticed this morning that it is showing signs of growing again!! he does get teased at school with it!

That sounds more like a wart, bikergrani- I had one of those on my chin and it just dropped off in the night. The skin tags seem to come with advancing age. I was a bit reluctant just to snip this one off in case it got infected.

The white cotton worked eventually- just a little red mark left now.
Now I have a problem with an age spot (not a mole) under my arm that has grown a crust and is standing proud of my skin. I am hoping it will behave like a wart and just drop off eventually.

I have one of those crusty raised spots on my thigh Greatnan, been there for years and shows no sign of going. I guess these things happen as we get older.

Why do they always come just where my bra is going to rub them?
