We are told that the best age physically is 17 -23, but the average age of a first pregnancy is rising steadily. There is some suggestion that the true facts about fertility should be included in sex education for older pupils.
Fertility drops off sharply after 35 and IVF brings its own problems.
Nobody wants to encourage young people to have sex or get pregnant before they are ready emotionally, physically and financially, but should they be given the facts about fertility, including what damage can be done to the reproductive system by STDs, smoking and heavy drinking.

I agree, I see it was spam which resurrected it. Perhaps the other genuine posters would like to start a new thread?

Sorry- I had no idea it was old- I never read dates. Perhaps it could be deleted?

Zero is a good age, anything over 3 years old will bring a tear to your eye.

Because I was 23 when I had my first baby I think that is a good age. I had a second one at 24 and a gap and then my third baby at 30.

I was wondering about the dads.

My DH was not a good dad when the first two were born. He was 25 and 26.

He couldn't seem to settle to it and was frequently away on courses for work. The worst time was when we had a 6 week old baby and a toddler of 18 months and he went away for a week.

We discussed it in later years and of course he could have delayed the course but it never occurred to him at the time.

At 30 and 32 we were much better parents but I'm not sure if that was because of our ages or because of experience.
