I do not have Insomnia as such but rather RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) or even more accurately ILM (Involuntary Limb Movements). This was one of the reasons why I had to stop working, because I was sometimes driving to work after only 1 or 2 hours sleep. I thought that, in retirement, I would be free to sleep in the daytime - RLS is nocturnal - but no such luck. Normal life is so geared towards 8 hours sleep at night that I find it very difficult to turn night into day. When the DGC first came along, I was able to provide a very useful night shift to give my exhausted DDs a break but now our child minding input is governed by school and pre-school hours with 0 chance of a nap between pick-ups. I can do correspondence, washing, ironing, make bread, etc. in the night but obviously cannot attend appointments, shop or work in the garden. When I do manage a sleep in the daytime, the phone rings, visitors turn up, parcels are delivered. I do wonder how shift workers cope?
Left to my own devices I could live with a topsy-turvey life but society's insistance on rigid bed times for all does not permit this. I also get very tired of the prevailing smug attitude that sleeping from 23.00 to 7.00 is praiseworthy, while 5.00 until 10.00 + 15.00 to 18.00 is the height of depravity!
