dental implants

In December I had a fall and knocked my front crowns and bridge out.
These cannot be replaced.
At the moment I have a denture to replace the missing teeth.
I am considering implants but they are very expensive.
Does anyone have experience of implants and are they worth the cost?

Willow500 I remember reading your other post. I think for the end result, £6000 is worth paying if you have the money.

There used to be a C4 TV series called 10 Years Younger and on one show I think a woman had a complete set of implants. She only had a few teeth for some reason and they were in a bad state. She was transformed by her new teeth, but I remember they said her new teeth cost about £20000. It was an unusually high amount for the show to pay, but they felt it was justified to show the potential and the end result. It was a top London dentist doing the work, but I'm not sure how common the treatment was at that time. So these days a £1000 is probably about right for a single tooth.

Nice teeth have always been something I notice and if I came into money, I would be torn between having my teeth done or boobs reduced. Maybe one day I could afford both! grin

Hello friend,
Yes, I know dental implants are very costly, as this involves usage of modern equipments. I think you do not have to worry about the money.

Hi, I know that my neighbor picked a clinic via dedicated service and travelled abroad. He has been happy with prices and service.

Just found this topic so probably too late to comment, but anyhow--- I had to lose all my teeth and couldn't tolerate dentures( couldn't talk or eat with them in, and mouth burned all the time), so dug deep and went for complete implants. It was a long process. The actual operation under local anaesthetic took five hours and required bits of bone to be chipped off and packed around the implants. It was very painful for a day or so, and I had to wear dentures for 10 weeks to allow the implants to bond. Then came numerous sessions of impressions and trials of "teeth" so that I sometimes felt I might as well move into the surgery. Eventually it was all completed and after about ten years they are still fine. I can eat anything and talk normally and am so glad that I had it done. My dentist said that my case was a nightmare because the bone structure was so poor. I can add that I was almost 70 when I had it done.

My mum has had dental implantology. Procedure went well, but one week later she has severe swelling in her jaw, around the area where implants went in and under her neck. She's being treated for infection but not getting better. She is awaiting appointment tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this? Before she becomes distressed.

If you are thinking about dental treatment in Hungary, please read before the sad story of my daughter treatment there: baddentistry.hu

It happened in Haifa Dent, one of Dental Network clinics, who holds a 5-star award of Whatclinic.com
It is only beginning of the story, it still continues. We have faced a very lazy, unprofessional patients rights protection system in Hungary. I guess it exists mostly to help bad dentists to avoid responsibility.

Regarding Whatclinic... do not trust their ratings, their reviews and their awards. They refuse to publish negative feedback, despite our numerous attempts. It is commercial advertisement cite, patients fb looks filtered in favour of clinics.

hochiwich- there might be advantages and disadvantages of undergoing dental treatment abroad, so I would encourage you to do as much research as possible in your decision making. But dental implants cost is more affordable at overseas clinis, and I have come across positive reviews on all on 4 implants (all on 6)
Here are some sources that might be helpful:

Hi everyone, I found this group yesterday by chance. I am part way through all on 4 implant. I now have the permanent teeth on the bottom but they don’t feel as comfortable as I had thought they would. I can feel the gab between my gum and the teeth arch. Is this a normal feeling. They look great from the front but I was surprised they were smooth at the back. I went for the zirconium ones and feel a tad disappointed with the quality. The gum color is pale pink but I think looks artificial. What are your experiences and how do you feel with the permanent teeth do they look and feel as good as you were expecting. Thank you
