Toenail fungal infection

The weather is at last beginning to improve and hopefully we will be able to wear sandals again soon, but I dread this time of year because I have developed a fungal infection which affects one big toe and several others. I went to a chiropodist who said it was virtually impossible to cure and she could only suggest Vic vapour rub applied to the nails daily, she'd heard that it helps, but hardly scientific! Her only other suggestion was to wear nail polish to hide it! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wireless has the answer. I was seen by skin specialist. Lamisil was prescribed and I had to take it for quite a long time.

The tablets made my daughter very ill she's had it most of her adult life and it has infected other parts of her feet with dreadful itching although this seems under control now but the toe nails are still a problem

Candida is by far leading source of Toenail Fungus and Cinnamon slays Candida, including antibiotic opposed to Candida. And best of this herb is that it can be consumed internally (as black tea infused by way of cinnamon bark oil, sticks poached into tea or powder) to fix internal roots and employ Ceylon Cinnamon Leaf Oil in order to remove or kill ugly toenails bacterial infections. Cassia Cinnamon has high Coumarin levels but Ceylon Cinnamon has low and this also makes it safer for your liver.
And if you want quick and harmless treatment then ZetaClear is product that’s especially formulated to tackle any sort nail fungus. It will assist and enhance natural recovery potential of body and therefore eliminates fungus illness effortlessly.

Looking for simple and easy solution to get rid of painful toenail fungus problem? This is really very irritating situation for anyone. I have also troubled a lot with fungal infection in one foot for years, the toenails are affected. I have used tea tree oil that comes with a little brush like nail varnish that you paint on the nails, and filled up that bottle with full strength tea tree oil a few times. But finally I have got the best solution that is zetaclear solution that is highly effective in removing the nail’s fungus. It provides an internal solution that boosts your immune system and control from future fungal attacks.

I tried most of the remedies here, tea tree oil helped but one no one has suggested is oregano oil. It was suggested by my nice massage therapist, paint it on twice a day or put some drops in a foot bath. Like all other remedies you have to do it regularly but my feet are now clear of foot fungus and I had it for two horrible years.

I self-diagnosed a fungal infection and went to the GP who did not agree. After more than a year, when I had painful excema on my feet as well, she sent me to dermatology who prescribed tablets I took for 6 months which worked but the nail bed was damaged by this long term infection and only a chiropodist can cut the nail.

This seems to be a very common problem. I've been plagued with it too and have tried Vicks etc which seem to work until you stop using it then back it comes.
My sister's chiropodist suggested I rub Lamisil cream into the affected nails, after first rubbing the surface with a nail file, and this seems to have done the trick. It did take a good few months though.
Good luck anyway.smile

Tea tree oil is the thing to use. I had a fungal infection on both big toenails and I applied the TTO twice, sometimes three times a day, kept the nails short and kept filing the area down. Two bottles later, fungal infection all gone!

ps I think there must be another thread about this, because I'm sure I posted about it in ?Dec. and I'm not on here.

I've been using the special varnish since Feb. and it has halted the progress of the fungus. I had an appt. with the chiropodist last week and she said the nail was looking healthy.
I renew the varnish every morning.

Since starting this thread a while ago now, I eventually mentioned it to my Dr whilst there for an appointment. She didn't even look at my toes (that were well hidden) and wrote a prescription, one tablet a day for approx. six months. I took them religiously and thankfully the infection has gone, unfortunately I can't remember what they were called. The Dr did say that it might take longer to cure, but as the summer approaches I am not worrying about exposing my toes (still don't like my feet but that's another story).

Try it all, although I haven't. I find nail varnish works wellgrin

Nothing worked for me. I have seen a very specialised chiropodist (got a posh name which I can't at the moment recall) and he said it is virtually impossible to permanently get rid of these fungal nail infections. As a result I have had my big toe nails removed permanently...so no nail varnish but at least no horrible, unsightly fungal nails.

In the meantime while we are waiting for results, I wish I could find some stylish footwear that covers my toenails but are cool. The only ones I've found are M&S Footgloves that only very old people (not me of course!) seem to wear. They are very comfortable & OK in some situations but I want some choice.
One GP sent off nail clippings & told me the problem wasn't fungal. Later I asked a female GP about it & she said the results couldn't always be relied on & it looked fungal to her. She prescribed curanail which has made my nails stronger but they are still ugly & thick. I used to have such lovely nails too.

I am using the stuff you paint on that the doctor has presecribed. It's been a year now, but my two large toe nails are almost clear of the fungus. Hurrah.

Hmm...I see masterbenji has directed us to the Zetaclear site (prices in euros). Never heard of it before.

The only thing that worked for me was the paint-on stuff prescribed by my GP, and it took about a year for the nail to become completely healthy.

That Zetaclear is £24.90 on Amazon - certainly not what I call really cheap! Also the reviews aren't great? Has anyone else tried it.

mollie Tue 11-Jun-13 17:36:48

OH has been trying curanail for a very long time without significant success so we've just bought some Vicks. Nothing to loose and everything to gain! And it's a fraction of the pice of curanail so that's even more reason to give it a go! Thanks for the tip!
