have been suffering for a while from this annoying thing, acid re-flux and heartburn, does anyone else have it?I try and root out problem foods, tomato based products, alchohol, anything spicy etc but still it occurs, daily.

I've been away this week staying in a hotel with all the temptations of lovely food and drink. BUT I stayed on my diet smile - just cutting down on gluttony and booze - and didn't get heartburn even once! There is little doubt that my heartburn has been self inflicted. I am now on a fasting day sad but will stick with the programme.

No reason why it should be a three day wonder. It's expensive for a reason. Keep taking it.

thanks, Jinglbellrocks. It is all a bit of a worry, to be truthful. But, I decided to try some alternative treatments: I ordered some Manuka honey 15. It arrived three days ago and already I feel better, can swallow without difficulty for the first time in ages, my throat feels easier, my whole mouth feels soothed. Quite extraordinary. It is expensive but so what? I just am so pleased that I feel better! Lets hope it isn't a three day wonder!

I had heart burn during both pregnancies and have eaten 1000s of Rennies in my lifetime. Now I can't take pastry but cake is Ok if it is small piece. Mince pies would cause it straight away so they are out.

Acid Reflux is age - related, believe or not we have a 17 yr old tom cat and he has got it! Regularly - after making a grim face, he howls and regurgitates a small amount of his breakfast- or supper. I know just how he feels. My old fashioned Cat Book suggests 1/4 of a Rennie occasionally.

When really stressed I take Omep and try not to worry. My GP said to raise the head end of the bed 15 cms. All this after a thorough internal examination where nothing really serious was found.

willsandco good luck, do hope that it's not anything serious.flowers

I have read the above comments, with interest cos I was diagnosed with GERD in the Spring. But I have developed slurred speech and breathlessness as well. Current medical thinking is perhaps reflux laryngitis, perhaps vocal cord dysfunction, perhaps the onset of motor neurone disease. Had neurological tests before Christmas, off to see Professor in Sheffield on 15th January. Please God it isn't MND. So my advice is not to avoid the GP. If you are worried, get it all checked out.

i wouldnt have thought slurred speech being connected with acid reflux....possibly anxiety? perhaps a visit to you gp....

jinglbellrocks Mon 06-Jan-14 11:00:20

I can't see how those two things can be connected Willsandco. Did n't your specialist get it sorted out for you? Think you should go back and tell GP you are still worried. flowers

Does anyone haveproblems with slurred speech as well as acid reflux

On day 2 of my diet and havent had heartburn at all. It's obvious that overeating is the cause for me. Just wish I could act upon that in the face of temptation!

rosesarered Sun 05-Jan-14 17:02:15

Jingl LOL!

annodomini Wed 01-Jan-14 23:39:43

Genevieve, I have the same thing. Today I feel bloated, attributable to eating all the things they said I should avoid. Drinking too, though not much. A bedtime dose of Ranitidine along with a slug of Gaviscon Advance should ensure a decent night's sleep.

Sorry. blush

Parp

Well, it's when wind gets trapped in your gut, in painful places. Haven't you ever had it? Peppermint is a muscle relaxant, so let's the wind move along. And out, eventually. smile

JessM Wed 01-Jan-14 19:07:41

Rennies contain minerals that neutralise stomach acid - or at least reduce its acidity for a while. I always wonder what "trapped wind" actually means? Can someone spell it out please.

jinglbellrocks Wed 01-Jan-14 19:06:39

Tastes like it too! (I guess!) Hated that stuff before I started on omeprazole.

rosesarered Wed 01-Jan-14 18:58:48

Weirdly, since Rennies are minty, they do the trick for me almost straight away, perhaps they are spearmint not peppermint? If not Rennies, I would not know what else to use.Gaviscon looks like Windowlene!

rosesarered Wed 01-Jan-14 18:56:51

Penstemmon I may give the whole wheat/gluten free thing a go, I have plenty of free from in the cupboard as my DD and DGS have this diet all the time. I use Dove flour to make cakes/biscuits.

jinglbellrocks Wed 01-Jan-14 18:49:20

That was for Jess.

jinglbellrocks Wed 01-Jan-14 18:48:24

Because they don't work and you can finish up taking more and more. And peppermint is only helpful for trapped wind. It is indigesible in itself.

Penstemmon Wed 01-Jan-14 17:44:38

My brother was diagnosed with hiatus hernia and swallowed 1000's of antacids tablets and jugs of Gaviscon. I told him my symptoms had greatly improved since going wheat/yeast free. He did the same and is 100% better!

It might be worth a try.... buy 'Free From ' if you find it tricky to give up certain foods.

Tegan Wed 01-Jan-14 16:58:10

Although I probably suffer from a bit of reflux I don't often have indigestion [always caused by overeating blush]but when I do Rennies are the only things that work. Never go anywhere without some in my handbag.
