…who are not taking blood pressure tablets, statins, arthritis drugs, anti-depressants, or any other regular medication? Are there any who still choose to sit on the floor, turn cartwheels, will spend an entire evening dancing, don't wear false teeth or partials, and don't really have any aches and pains?

Does wine and chocolate count as medication?
Otherwise I, 51 and menopausal, do not take anything but have never been athletic or gymnastic in any way.

63 in a fortnight... no prescription drugs [ wink]
...occasional aches & pains, loveto dance, can sit on the floor and frequently do in school and at home..less lithe in standing up again. Never mastered a cartwheel but can touch palms on floor without bending knees!

I'm not suggesting that there is any virtue in not being on medication – only good fortune. It's just that I have noticed rather a lot of posts about aches and pains, bp tablets and statins recently and felt the need to restore the balance.

Mamie Yes, I can do the straight leg up in the air holding the inside of the foot bit, sitting and standing, with either leg – but not both at once, especially when standing.grin I haven't tried the splits for a long time but will have a go later today. I certainly used to be able to do them.

I shall be 64 in May.

'you're'

Ana Wed 19-Feb-14 17:25:29

Not enough, actually! I can't think what 'exercise' that could be, unless you'r a contortionist, Grannyknot! confused

Aka Wed 19-Feb-14 16:56:43

Grannyknot. TMI hmm

Agus Wed 19-Feb-14 16:32:01

Grannyknot. shock. hee hee hee.

TriciaF Wed 19-Feb-14 16:03:11

I take 3, I had a heart problem. Plus aspirin (if that counts.)
On the plus side I'm thin (inherited) and walk with the dogs every day, but can't run , knees won't allow.
I'm nearly 78 - gotta keep going!

Grannyknot Wed 19-Feb-14 15:48:49

Come to think of it, I still do an "exercise" which requires me to lift my legs above my head grin

Agus Wed 19-Feb-14 15:24:27

64 yesterday. Never could do the splits. Very impressive Mamie. Go you grin

rosesarered Wed 19-Feb-14 15:14:54

Nonnie how can you be taller now? A joke surely. heehee. I am getting smaller as time goes on, soon I shall be a hobbit.Could never do cartwheels even as a child, hate sitting on the floor [unless a comfy bean bag counts?] Have several medications on the go. Have all my own teeth [so far.] Dance about the house to certain radio music [not all night, phew!]Do some gentle excercises every day for my back.

Tegan Wed 19-Feb-14 14:06:39

My son has just got back from a holiday in Vietnam and we were discussing how supple older Vietnamese/Chinese etc people are. I'm sure it's down to the way they do gentle exercise from a young age. He said one place he stayed at had a over sixties running group [and by over sixties I mean a lot over sixty]. Had a similar conversation with my chiropractor once.

Nonnie Wed 19-Feb-14 13:20:15

Of course it does Aka each to her own I say! smile

Aka Wed 19-Feb-14 12:42:57

mamie I couldn't do those when I was 5 let alone now. But I can bend every finger on both hands independently of all the others. Does that count?

Grannyknot Wed 19-Feb-14 12:42:38

Oh and I often sit on the floor, including once in desperation on a packed train (I had been standing from Glasgow to Newcastle).

Grannyknot Wed 19-Feb-14 12:40:03

I'm 65 in July, and I take no medication whatsoever. I think I'm lucky!

As for splits and foot in the air, all I can say is "respect, sister" smile.

Mamie Wed 19-Feb-14 12:34:42

64. Is there anyone else for splits / foot in hand past ear with straight legs?
Only me? [preens emoticon]

bikergran Wed 19-Feb-14 12:24:33

Tegan Wed 19-Feb-14 12:23:36

I can sit on the floor; it's just that, when I do, I can't get back up again sad...

grannyactivist Wed 19-Feb-14 12:17:33

I've been putting off refilling my medicine pack as it takes me about fifteen minutes and is such a boring job. I take six prescription tablets every day, plus iron and vitamin B supplements. I fill up my pack every two weeks because it's easier than sorting through my meds daily. I also have two puffers for asthma and topical cream for a skin complaint. I'm reasonably fit and active; I haven't done a cartwheel since I was about twelve, but I can still dance an evening away and I spend a lot of time sitting on the floor with my grandchildren. I'm sixty.

ffinnochio Wed 19-Feb-14 11:54:35

Jingle If I were to do commando cartwheels in the market square, the most I would get would be the french insouciance stare - which they do so well. I'd expect at least a round of applause!

Bellasnana Wed 19-Feb-14 10:47:56

ffinocchio grin grin

Nonnie Wed 19-Feb-14 10:32:16

I think I'm fitter now than I have ever been. Now we have time to go to the gym and follow a proper programme and go to pilates. I'm also taller than I have ever been. Retirement - what's not to like?

durhamjen Wed 19-Feb-14 10:26:34

My dad's brother and sister go American square dancing every Tuesday and Wednesday night. He is 84, 85 next month, and she is 79.

Aka Wed 19-Feb-14 10:23:52

67 and 1 month.
