Question for those taking omeprazole

DGD2 sometimes gives a little shiver or sigh afterwards, so it is definitely wee-time. I think they are getting more conscious of doing one at that age and perhaps enjoying the sensation.

My youngest grandson used to stop and stare into space like that and he is not on any medication. It was mainly in the year between 2-3. I was worried he may have some form of petit mal. But not he's stopped it completely for nearly a year and I'd forgotten it until I read your post Nina.

GD 4 goes quiet and stares into space when she gets the tummy ache, she has a bowel problem and at it's worst it causes loss of bladder control.
I have never had a problem with PPIs.

60 to 90 seconds sounds about the time to do a wee. DGD2 stops whatever she is doing and does not respond to anything while she is doing one, she just stares into the distance then happily resumes whatever she was doing. Usually needs a nappy change just afterwards. I first noticed this with my own DC. It needs concentration!

I wonder if the diclofenac makes him a bit sleepy during the day.

Poor little boy. Hope he's alright. Really don't think it's got anything to do with the omeprazole. Does he get tired? Perhaps he just gets sleepy sometimes.

smile he stares for 60-90 secs if you wave your hand in front of him he doesn't blink.
There probably isn't a connection. I just thought he might be experiencing room spin.

My husband`s been on it, along with Bisuprolol and Tramadol, since his ops last summer for an aneurysm and bowel cancer, no ill effects that we`ve noticed.

I've been on it a couple of years and I haven't seen unicorn yet. grin

Don't somehow think the two are related.

I mean DGD2 of course, DD2 would have a fit if she saw that post!

rosequartz Tue 29-Apr-14 20:12:45

DD2 stops still and stares into space for quite a while sometimes, but it is usually because she is doing a nice warm wee into her nappy. Does he stare for a longer time or just a minute or two?

He is under a gastro consultant who want's him to continue with it.

At 2yrs and non verbal it's impossible to know what's happening at these times. 'Seeing fairies and unicorns ' is just the expression DD uses.
He stops still and stares into space. DD has spoken to GP but he says given his age it's hard to tell.
He's on diclofenac too. Amongst other drugs.

Ask DD to check if the dose is too high for a 2 year old, and does he still need it?

rosequartz Tue 29-Apr-14 20:01:42

I was prescribed it when I was prescribed Diclofenac, to take beforehand to avoid stomach problems. However, our GPs have decided to try to get patients off Diclofenac and I try to do without them. The young GP I saw told me to keep the Omeprazole I had already and use them if I felt I needed them. He said that he and his young family all took them if they were going on a journey and if they are away in a foreign country.
However, I have read about many side effects and decided not to take them unless absolutely necessary. These side effects will not apply to everyone, and I do not want to take them because I am on other medication.
Perhaps it would be best for your DD to see her GP to ask about DGS's possible side effects.

I have had vertigo due to an ear problem, but it caused nausea and a spinning sensation rather than seeing things.

I read an article today about a woman who went for years with undiagnosed silent reflux. She was eventually prescribed omeprazole. The article states that 1% of patients have the side effect of vertigo.
Our 2yr old DGS was prescribed this about 1 yr ago. He has periods when as DD says 'he is seeing fairies and unicorns.' I'm wondering if he is experiencing vertigo.
Has anyone experienced this ?
