cold sores

Can anyone suggest a remedy for cold sores?
I suddenly developed one, on my lip, on Friday, and it's not nice! Though I suppose there are worse things. I think I've had them in the past but not for a long time.
My lips get very dry because of some medications I take, and I put lip balm on regularly.
Hoping someone can help.

grannyisland I only ever had one cold sore. no recurrence yet. But strangely I did not take any homeopathic remedies. They are the most expensive form in which you can buy distilled water.
