Anybody used an epilator on peach fuzz facial hair?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with facial hair problems. I rarely see anyone else younger than about 80, with upper lip hair so everyone must be managing theirs very well. I've tried electrolysis but it was painful and certainly not permanent. I've waxed, had threading, tried bleaching and Immac. I now just pluck but from reading the comments, is epilating the best?

You're a brave woman, Mary. Having tried electrolysis, I decided to give it a miss and bought a Whizzit. I can't imagine undergoing that for an hour at a time. Once when I was sitting waiting for my DiL to finish having her eyebrows threaded, I watched a woman having a considerable amount of facial hair removed by this method. Either she was being very stoical or she was feeling no pain.

You do seem to have been going through it for a long time though, Mary sad. I don't mean to pry, but don't hormone treatments work very successfully for facial hair?

I use the Braun on my arms. I did try it on my face but it took the top layer of skin off. I used Eflora cream on my face for some time (also known as Vaniqa) and found it very good. Now I'm having facial electrolysis an hour at a time twice a week. That is expensive! I'm still shaving every day apart from the part of the face next for treatment.

I'm not the usual sort of woman with regard to facial hair though.

Whizzit is easier to use if you puff your cheeks out, though that doesn't work with the chin.

Any body tried the"No No" that seems to be advertised all over the place?

janepearce6 Sat 04-Jul-15 19:11:10

Doesn't it mean a 'full set of whiskers' eventually as in shaving?

Speaking as one who has had facial hair all her adult life and has tried everything bar threading:
Shaving: don't do it.
Epilation: it hurts like stink
Waxing: also hurts like stink but someone else is doing it so they can get it over with quicker,
Depilatory creams: only take the hair off at skin level so quicker regrowth though handy for a quick fix.
Plucking: time consuming and it's easy to miss hairs if you're not in the right light. Again, handy for instant results.
Electrolysis: Painful and costly and after a couple of years my beauty therapist gave up and advised me to try laser
Laser: I tried Ruby laser which only works on hair that contains pigment; if your whiskers are white or blonde don't waste your money. Several treatments later I was ecstatic, great result. 5 years later I was back to square one. Tried laser light treatment; total waste of time and money.
I now wax for special occasions, tweeze out the worst and, in the main, go 'au naturelle' and nobody's died of fright.
So, remember; nobody else gives a fig what's on your face, it's just the media and the beauty market that want to make us feel bad and spend our cash.

How easy to use it is must depend on exactly which part of your face you are using it on. The contours of the face would affect how you hold it.

I would imagine it takes a bit of practice to really get the knack.

Hello received Wizzit this morning and very disappointed with results.
Also warning to other ladies who maybe thinking of purchasing of this product look on-line. Gift from hubby bought through one of the Nationals and paid three times the price :-(
Should have kept packaging as it had 10 day sale or return trial drrh.

It's the bit under your nose which makes your eyes water!! grin

It took me a while Glass. I thought it might get tangled up or something! (not that I'm that hairy!)

glass! grin

Give it a go - try it on your chin first, it doesn't seem to hurt so much there...wink

I ordered a Whizzit a few weeks ago but I havent plucked up the courage to use it yet.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 03-Jul-15 10:03:03

Too. blush

Whizzit still in use here to. Thank you Ana. So hated squinting with the tweezers.

Lona Fri 03-Jul-15 09:21:47

I'm still using my Whizzit too anno, but not often as it works so well for me! Thanks Ana grin

Laser does remove hair but in my experience not permanently. The hair has to be dark to work well (mine was) and it is expensive. But I found after a few months it had started to grow back and I now use disposable razors but make sure I moisturize my skin before I do this ( a tip from a beautician).

annodomini Thu 02-Jul-15 23:19:56

I also use the Whizzit (available from Amazon). I don't have a big problem and such hairs as I do have are mostly fine, but I prefer to be without them. Thanks to Ana for recommending it on a previous thread about the same subject.

I have my whole face threaded as often as funds allow. It's about £20 a time and depends on individual hair growth as to how often you need it.
I recently have been looking at the Smooth SkinGold IPL. Device
It has very good reviews It costs about £289 though but maybe worth it in the long run. Anyone have this or tried it?

Nelliemoser Thu 02-Jul-15 17:45:42

"Valleysgirl! One session of laser treatment will never be any good it takes a few goes but it works well if the hair is dark. It is quite expensive though.

Electrolysis is a lot more affordable and more uncomfortable. It all depends on how bad your hair growth is.

FlicketyB Me too.
This seemed to be a hormonal problem going down one side of my family from our late teens. When the hair is very coarse it really needs proper treatment and plucking just will not work well enough.

My sister is older. When she was in her early 20s she went for steroid treatments and now has the thinned bones to prove it. Before those "miracle drugs" steroids had their really bad press.

I went for electrolysis for a long time (years) until the the salon got it under control. I had laser treatment when that came in which was very effective.
Now it is so reduced I go for electrolysis every few weeks to keep it under control. It's also a good excuse to have a good chat and a laugh with the salon owner who has been sorting me out for so many years.

Owwwwwwwowwwwowwww I think we all have VERY different pain thresholds I would rather give birth again at my age than suffer the pain of an epilator!! I tend to pluck facial hair and use wax strips sometimes. I have used two makes of epilator on my legs and just cannot stand the pain never mind on the face.......anyway I only pluck for summer there are some good part time jobs as Father Christmas around in Winter LOL grin
