just wondering if anyone is NOT having the flu jab this year? And for what reason....
There are so many conflicting reports wether it actually works also the bad side effects from actually having the jab...me I'm still thinking about it as I do get a bad reaction every time I have it...

There is already a sizeable discussion on this Jenty61 where various views have been raised. I had mine on Saturday as I do every year but I am immunocompromised.

Charleygirl Thu 09-Oct-14 09:07:24

I had mine 2 weeks ago with no side effects at all. I have no desire to have flu.

Londongirl Thu 09-Oct-14 09:16:05

I haven't mine yet but will get it next week and have only had side effects once a few years ago. I think if you have the flu jab when you're feeling a bit low and are coming down with something, then it is more likely to develop into flu-like symptoms.

I had my first one two years ago but developed headaches and a hacking cough so decided against having another one. I've been told over and over again that the jab doesn't cause 'flu like symptoms by people who obviously have suffered no side effects. Lucky them but I'll go with what my body tells me.

Jenty61 I posted a reply about flu on the "ebola" thread (where Hollydaze thought that 30,000 people are predicted to die of flu this winter - I could not find that figure but did find 8.000 as a yearly average)

My quotes came from https://www.gov.uk/government/news/public-health-england-and-the-nhs-prepare-for-unpredictable-flu-season

Like you merlot I react to the injection. This year the nurse didn't ridicule me but agreed that some people did develop a temperature and feel unwell, this time I was not so unwell but the sore arm lasted a week.

Ditto merlot & harrogran

Do you get a reminder? I had one last year which was OK. Shall I have another? I shall ponder on that one

We got ours done in Tesco. Didn't wait around for the surgery. Only nine quid. Arm ached for about half an hour. Nothing else.

This is my attitude to vaccines, and I won't be having one.

Yeah, I bet that Dr Hyman knows loads more than the top scientists of the Western world. I've no doubt his 10 Day Dettox Diet book and his DIY Get your blood sugar down books and his Thyroid Support Kit for Dummies sounds fantastic too.

hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 09-Oct-14 20:12:05

Come on!

nightowl Thu 09-Oct-14 20:34:23

I said he sums up my attitude to vaccines jingl not that he's my guru.

nightowl Thu 09-Oct-14 20:37:30

He is a scientist. Not sure what counts as 'a top scientist of the western world'.

nightowl Thu 09-Oct-14 20:39:17

I was answering the OP who asked if anyone would not be getting a flu jab. Not trying to convert anyone to my way of thinking. Yer pays yer money......

Galen Thu 09-Oct-14 21:06:03

I won't

Galen Thu 09-Oct-14 21:08:17

I react and the non egg one has not proven to work well and requires two appointments which prove impossible

tanith Thu 09-Oct-14 21:13:53

I won't be having it I think I built up some immunity during my working life and would rather rely on that . I haven't had Flu for over 40yrs despite being in contact with lots of people who have had it over the years.

Purpledaffodil Thu 09-Oct-14 21:53:41

Only had it once about 5 years ago and spent several months with a hacking cough. Normally have good health and so have decided to risk not having it again. Time will tell.

Deedaa Thu 09-Oct-14 22:11:04

I'll be having it next week, DH has already had it. As a diabetic with a compromised immune system he has no choice, this year one of the nurses pounced the minute she saw him.

NanKate Thu 09-Oct-14 23:08:09

I had mine earlier this month with no adverse effects and puts my mind at rest, as hopefully this will be one less thing I can catch.

Gracesgran Thu 09-Oct-14 23:26:22

I turned 65 a couple of weeks ago and, along with all the other things my GP Surgery suddenly want to check I got my first call up for a flu jab.

To be honest I don't think I would have one for myself - although I would have to take into account that they are expecting a worse year this year - but I am my mother's carer and will have it in the hope I stay fit over the winter smile

Iam64 Fri 10-Oct-14 08:10:29

Had mine this week, no side effects. I'm immuno suppressed, and did get flu over the millennium holiday. It was truly awful, white blood cell count dropped, terrible chest infection and 5 weeks off work. I'd had a flu jab, but as others have said, there are different strains of the dreaded flu.

My dad had on when he was about 70, never had another, as he said it made him ill. Personal choice I guess

Gagagran Fri 10-Oct-14 08:24:45

After such a bad reaction to the shingles and the pneumonia jabs I had in August there's no way I'm having it. That's on medical advice.
