In today's DM "Men who sleep with multiple women REDUCE their risk of prostate cancer"

Yes, I know it serves me right for reading the DM, but this set alarm bells ringing . . .

"It is the first study to suggest the number of female partners is what matters, rather than the amount of sex, or even masturbation.

But asked if it meant public health authorities will be encouraging men to sleep with many women in their lives to protect against prostate cancer, Professor Marie-Elise Parent replied: 'We are not there yet.' "

The whole article is here:

Yeah right. Nice try, chaps.

TriciaF Tue 28-Oct-14 16:45:56

Yes but what other nasty infections can they pick up and pass on?

Soutra Tue 28-Oct-14 16:54:58

When I told DH he said " Now you tell me!" grin

When i showed this to Mrs P, she said "no chance for you now then!), cruel.

I suspect that an extreme number of conquests could just mean never getting old enough for prostate cancer.

Read the article. Not convinced. Here's why:

"The results were obtained as part of the Montreal study PROtEuS (Prostate Cancer & Environment Study), in which 3208 men responded to a questionnaire on, amongst other things, their sex lives."

It seems to have been a survey not a proper scientific study. Call me cynical but men would never lie about the number of their sexual partners now, would they?

Just heard on the radio that a study done in America [I think] came to the conclusion that people who led a rock'n'roll lifestyle were more likely to die younger than those who didn't. I could have told them that for free confused.

oop - have had my moments but DH is a born again virgin I have to force myself on him periodically!!!!

Mishap Tue 28-Oct-14 21:24:46

"Nice try chaps" indeed!

What does sleeping have to do with it?

Nelliemoser Tue 28-Oct-14 22:48:48

Absent re "Sleeping with" We Brits are all too buttoned up or far to polite to use a more graphic word.

"Sleeping with" Always annoys me as a euphemism. Perhaps we should use Copulating instead!

I was once on a course years ago as part of training for a HIV helpline and we were asked to say all the words we new for sexual intercourse so we weren't shocked or surprised when callers used their word for it- there were dozens of words for it.

I can't be the only one who feels like stringing up the odd journalist for being so irresponsible as to print such a stupid and potentially harmful piece of crap.

MiniMouse Wed 29-Oct-14 12:03:22

janerowena That was exactly my reaction when I did the op. Irresponsible indeed! Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any follow-up on it, so perhaps it'll disappear.

Ana Wed 29-Oct-14 12:06:45

If you google the headline, you'll see that it wasn't just the DM that reported this story! The Telegraph, Independent, Mirror and ScienceDaily plus many more also did...

Elegran Wed 29-Oct-14 12:54:42

Wishful thinking by male journalists?

MiniMouse Wed 29-Oct-14 13:00:23

Ana then they're all equally irresponsible!!!

KatyK Wed 29-Oct-14 14:20:07

Well, my DH has prostate cancer, he will be kicking himself if he sees this!

janerowena Wed 29-Oct-14 15:39:30

All girls should be taught how to use an elastrator band applicator before they start to have a social life.

https://www.animart.com/store/elastrator-applicator-large/

It takes weeny strong elastic bands and stretches them hugely and pops them neatly over, but then they are impossible to remove without a very steady hand and pair of sharp scissors. I often wished I had packed one in my handbag as a teen.

thatbags Wed 29-Oct-14 15:48:00

Doesn't matter who published it, ana. It's still rubbish.

Ana Wed 29-Oct-14 15:57:40

I know that bags. I just get fed up with the constant DM-bashing.

Oh my BiL will likely live forever....in misery. His lovely lovely wife finally left him. His life has been miserable ever since.
