Slow to heal

I've found in the last couple of years that even the most minor cut/scrape/burn takes forever to heal and I am left with a mauve scar which takes ages to fade away.. I'm not diabetic by the way.

At present I have a small cut on my foot I've had for 2 weeks and its still not properly healed and a tiny paper cut (don't they hurt) on my index finger I did 3 days ago and despite using a narrow strip of plaster tightly round it, it is still open and sore.
I know we all take longer to heal as we get older and skin thins but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a cream or maybe a vitamin or herb that they have used to good effect. I've already tried leaving them uncovered, covered with and without savlon, Tea tree oinment, E45, tcp oinment...

So any other suggestions will be good, I am going to mention it to my practice nurse next time I see her for a blood test .

Calendula cream works pretty well to aid healing for small cuts. Also my husband takes aspirin so boy, does he bleed and he is forever cutting himself. So I bought plasters with silver in them, they seem to work.

I find that the oily version of Germolene heals things faster than the water-based one, I think because the water-based one (and Savlon and the other water-based creams) keeps the wound "soggy" but the oily one keeps it soft but not damp.

My doctor (in France) prescribes this for help in healing wounds. It's very good.

From the advert it seems you can get it in the UK.

We find Aloe vera gel to be good with any skin healing - even burns.

I was a Staff Nurse at one time (before dinosaurs ruled the earth) on a ward where because of their condition patients were very slow to heal and it was discovered that they were low on Zinc. When a supplement was given healing rates improved. As to dosage I couldn't be sure as it was a preparation made up in pharmacy for them. As a District Nurse we used Zinc impregnated bandages on leg ulcers.

Teetime - I remember treating baby's nappy rash with zinc and castor oil cream.

my sister in law swears by Manuka Honey 15 or 20. Bit expensive but works wonders! x

A little manuka honey goes a long way - I use it for all kinds of infections and sores

My DH has had a lesion since April. For months it just would not heal, didn't matter what we tried. A couple of weeks ago the District Nurse suggested Sudacream and wonder of wonder it started to heal straight away. Its now almost totally healed.

Thanks everyone I am using Sudacream at the moment and it seems to be working on my toe and the paper cut is almost gone, I am very happy.. so thanks for the recommendations.,.
