Debbie Purdy died 23 December

The poor, poor woman, and her family. That she should have been forced to live against her clear wishes is, imho, criminal and totally inhuman.

Sometimes I wonder if one day I'd like to go back to UK to be nearer daughter and grandchildren- but this case reminds me that it's better to stay where I will have the choice, when the time comes.

I wish I could have opened my home to Debbie so she could have been given that choice.

I read that Debbie Purdy been in the hospice for a year, not refusing food for a year.

And they wouldn't feed her against her wishes.

I'm with you, nankate. They must have been giving her some sustenance without her knowing it for it to take a year.

She does sound an extraordinary lady. How sad that her death had to be so protracted.

I too feel very sad but at the same time she is now at peace and I hope her family can 'celebrate' her life and they can find the ability to move forward with their own lives whilst remembering the wonderful woman they were blessed to know.

I think it will be the case in the coming years Debbie and others will have led the way for a change in the law and whilst I accept this a personal opinion it won't come soon enough.
