Feeling grim

Antibiotics often make people feel sick - you have all my sympathy. How much longer do you have to take them?

Sometimes the instructions tell you to take before or after or with food, maybe worth checking? Really miserable when medication makes you feel worse when you already feel poorly.

Don't know if it's worth waiting 3 more days to see how you feel. There is a chance you may feel a lot worse as it appears this particular antibiotic doesn't agree with you. I would suggest phoning your surgery explaining how you feel.

Surgery putting prescription for alternative antibiotic into pharmacy for me. I don't mind feeling a bit umpity but this morning wasn't pleasant, perhaps I need to stop struggling on manfully but was only trying to follow doc's orders. ( why do we never struggle on womanfully I wonder??)

to all you poorly people. So many of us seem to be suffering, is it the family coming together from all over the country bearing germs gifts? Or alternative.y more travel and exposure to germs and viruses on public transport? Such a shame, hope you all feel better soon.

Pleased to hear that Katek. No point in soldiering on when your body is telling you it's not accepting certain meds. Finger crossed the new course works for you.

I was shooting up and down the aisles at Waitrose yesterday trying to avoid the coughers and splutterers.

Thank you Soutra. I think your theory could be valid....we've been all over the place at Christmas visiting family, plus the DC came back from NYC on 23rd with coughs and sniffles after the flight. Think I should go into hibernation from October to April!

Katek Not long ago I had a severe reaction to doxycycline (well known to have emetic effect) - was sick as a dog for 24 hours. I phoned the surgery and was told to stop taking it. After a few days I was given a prescription for another antibiotic.

KateK, I haven`t taken that one, but have had the same effects from Tramadol and Trimethoprim, so I refuse now to have them prescribed for me.

I can recommend Metronidazole, it gives you surreal dreams, they're quite good fun.

I felt nauseous with metronidazole for a tooth abscess, crun. The pharmacist insisted that I must have mixed it with alcohol, which was untrue. I don't remember any odd dreams though.

Feel soooo much better this morning- stopped doxycycline yesterday and collecting new prescription this morning. This is tail end of the chest infection that started a month ago, two courses of amoxicillin, 5 days of prednisilone and 4 days of doxycycline and I'm only now starting to get my energy levels up. December was such a busy month that there was little opportunity for r and r! Thanks for all the good wishes.

Good news.

I didn't get any nausea with Metronidazole shysal. Apart from the dreams, I just got a mouth that tasted of rotting teeth, but it didn't spoil the taste of my food, oddly.
