I shower every day but I suspect it is not too good for my dry skin.

Well I have to say this thread has given me a good laugh this morning and set me up for the day! By the way, I have TWO bidets!
(Just tried to put a 'smiley grin' but can't seem to do it. Help!

It's funny how different we all are Anya. If I had that amount of showers and baths my very dry skin would be itching like crazy.

I mix up some essential oils, geranium, rose etc. to apply in the shower or a small amount in a bath as I would suffer by using any off the shelf perfumed products.

I used to have a bath every day (I still could if I wanted) but I've adjusted and don't miss it. My skin doesn't miss it either; if anything, it's grateful to be given time to make its natural oils gently.

I love a shower and hair wash every morning. It wakes me up, freshens me up and sets me up for the day and a bubbly, scented bath at night after a busy day helps me get to sleep.

It must be awful not to be able to soak in a bath due to age or disability. I would miss it terribly.

Does anyone else dislike showering? Or is it just me? I do stand up washes at the basin (face and "hot spots") daily and only have a shower, in order to wash my hair (no, I can't bend over the basin to do that — too painful) about every six days. I've been trying to extend the number of days between showers but my hair isn't ready for that yet. Glad to have got it down from every day to once in six days though. My hair is much less fly-away and annoying now. My skin has benefited as well. I have very dry skin and a reduction in unnecessary ablutions means my skin is more comfortable.

A sponge down on a hot day is as effective as a shower, I find, and although there is no shortage of water (rather the opposite!) in western Scotland, I find it satisfying to be able to get clean and fresh with no more than a basinful of water. The order you wash parts of your body in is important.

Good morning All.

I switched on laptop and innocently turned to this thread and found a real battle going on.

Ana asked where I was, having started the thread, well I was fast asleep.

I'm sorry this topic has been so divisive, the last thing I wanted, especially for anyone who is disabled.

Onward and upward. smile

Sorry Galen, it's rather early in the morning flowers!

loopylou Sat 28-Feb-15 06:26:41

A loo like that [Galen] would be a luxury smile, just think how much you'd save in loo paper and presumably it's eco friendly.
Seriously though they are brilliant for people with disabilities as are wet rooms. I'm not a shower fan but we installed a wet room for MIL and I was very impressed. My parents are considering having one as they worry about slipping in their rather small shower. It also means that they can sit instead of having to stand and, if it becomes necessary, they could have someone help them. I think it's easier to keep a wet room clean too.
Add a body drier and I'd move in with them!

I actually had a colleague in the tribunals who had one of these!
He had no arms.
On going through security at the court he said 'I'm armless! ' they still searched him.
This is true!
His name's Frank Letch and you can see him on Google! He's an ex mayor of ? Honiton

janerowena have you met the toilet that gives a washing jet then a blow dry?

Galen Fri 27-Feb-15 23:36:04

I really loved a hot bath with bubblessad

Eloethan Fri 27-Feb-15 23:30:50

A hot bath in the morning and a hot bath before I go to bed. The morning one helps me wake up and the night one sends me to sleep. That is my one very important luxury.

janerowena Fri 27-Feb-15 23:15:52

grin grin grin

I want the sort of wetroom that has a body drier. How luxurious would that be? I would have loads of showers every day if I had one of those.

Anya Fri 27-Feb-15 23:05:40

Well I have been called psychic before Ana ...em..???... or was that psychotic? Not definately the 'chic' one, that's me.
