Splitting headache, shoulders aching with drive to and from DD's house in E London, knees as per usual (ouchy) but to crown it all I stubbed my little toe on the wardrobe door this morning and it was EXCRUCIATING!! It's bruised, swollen, all my shoes hurt and walking is a real pain. tbusad

Have you got any ibuprofen? If not, then ice packs, frozen peas are good.

Elevate it too, might help. Having done this more than once, apart from janer's suggestions not much else to suggest.

Poor you Soutra I agree you need some painkillers. Do you think you have broken your little toe?

My son broke one of his toes recently he was told to strap it to his next good toe, wear supportive shoes and rest up when he could, whilst the bruising went down.

The ice pack is a good idea that Jane mentioned.

When you can get out and about get yourself a wheat bag that you can warm in the microwave. I put mine on my shoulders when they are achy. I think Boots sell them or online at Amazon.

Hope you can sleep ok.

RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation
Standard first aid treatment for soft tissue injuries.

Lay on the bed, with a G&T /ice, heavy weight on top and get it up. Works for me.

I would put a lot of money on that you have broken it. It is something I do regularly because I am forever stubbing my little toe. Sorry to tell you but it takes 6 weeks to heal but it is not excruciating all of the time.

Toes are so vulnerable, Karen, I think you have managed to break it and there's not much you can do about it except keep it as comfortable as possible and rest it when you can - not easy, I know, in your circumstances. I think I broke/chipped mine in January. The bruise extended all along the base of my toes but it was the little one that really hurt. Still twinges occasionally. The other time I did it, it was summer and I was able to wear flip flops for about six weeks.

Sorry SOUTRA - must have been thinking of another friend I have to email tonight! blush

Ouch! I have done that it hurt like B******y. I could not wear proper shoes for a long while and my trainers or sandals were about all I could get on.

I hope it doesn't go like mine which developed into a Hammer Toe. I had that fixed about a year after I injured it. That was a painful experience for a while but it did get better. Without having it done I would have been wearing my trainers at my daughters wedding.

I would try padding it and strapping it to the next toe it will give you a chance to put your feet up.

Mine is fine now apart from needing to protect the skin on the toe around where the incision was as it gets sore if I walk far.

I hope yours heals up. I have two flexible gel Kool Packs I used when I had my shoulder tendons done. They were excellent value for about £5 each.

Very tender this morning and some impressive deep purple bruising! Need to look out very soft, wide trainers. Do I wear them on both feet? tbuconfused or just one?

Whatever's most comfortable.

Soutra Mon 06-Apr-15 09:27:49

But is it a good look tbugrintbugrin On reflection, matching will make me look less of a mad old biddy.

Both feet! Pad the toe if you can, without putting extra pressure on it. And don't play it down - get hold of a walking stick and tell all the family how painful your poorly toe is.

8soutra* I am with you in your pain- a stubbed toe is agony. I did my toe on Good Friday evening and didn't realise it was pouring blood when I got into my newly changed bed of course getting blood on very surface!!
MY toe is black and blue and huge now. I hope yours healing up.

Soutra Mon 06-Apr-15 12:09:03

I like the idea of milking it for all it is worthtbugrin. But DH and I have to go to London again tomorrow and the thought of 3 sticks between the 2 of us would be like Jake the Peg!! (With his extra leg!)

After I 'did' my toe in January, I bought a pair of sturdy slippers which protect the 'piggies' nicely.
