VQ Whooping cough had crossed. my mind I knew an elderly man who's cough was finally diagnosed as this, despite him having had it as a child.

That went through my mind too vampirequeen, it does seem unfortunate that this cough is so persistent for some GNs.
I do hope it'll clear up with the warmer weather coming. flowers to you all.

Ask your doctor if it could possibly be whooping cough. I thought it was an illness that only affected children until I caught it a few years ago. It didn't present like exactly like whooping cough. It was more like a prolonged chesty cough with no apparent cause.

DD has had it for three months. It's easing up a little but she's still coughing.

I haven't still got that cough. I've got it again. It's waking me at night and making my ribs ache.

Oh my goodness! So many of you still with this cough! I had assumed (wrongly, as it turns out) that I was the only one left with it and was feeling very sorry for myself. I must have a look at codeine based meds/cough mixture and check the interaction with my other meds. (Should have taken a degree in pharmacy with my current repeat prescription list) Thanks for the suggestions and I hope you all feel better very soon. Off to suck another couple of Hall's Soothers......

Crikey! I've only been coughing for a couple of weeks, I hope it doesn't last 100 days. I know what you mean about uncontrollable barking, that's what I've been like. Now I have headache, bunged up nose and generally feel lousy.

It's not going to cure the cough but Codeine Linctus has a cough suppressant that works really well. I was prescribed it when I had a chest infection it really did work to stop the cough.

I've got it too - as has my daughter. Am assuming it will be gone by August!! really annoying during my yoga session this morning - embarrassing to boot particularly in the meditation period.

My mum was told by her doctor when she had cough that wouldn't go away, to take paracetomol. she said it worked for her especially at night time .Also I believe there is a cough mixture called "Pholcadeine" not sure how it is spelt, that is supposed to be good.

Me too, join the club. I exist on a diet of sudofed and piriton currently, with a side helping of Night Nurse and occasional sprays of Vick's First Defence, because I take pirinase nasal spray all year round for perennial rhinitis only it's just not working. I had several colds and then 'flu, ending up with the vile 100 day cough over the week between Xmas and New Year. I know how bad smokers must feel as soon as they move in the mornings now. I get another coughing bout as evening falls.

Join the clan - I have been coughing and coughing for weeks. Started as bronchitis and then the productive cough just will to go away. I sound like Fag Ash Annie!

GP gives me inhaler to try and clear it; and OH recommends steam inhalations to shift the phlegm. Lovely!

It is an annual trial and even the sun does not seem to shift it this year.

I do really sympathise and hope that it all goes away soon.

It all started last July with a sinus/ear thing. I went deaf in one ear because of all the gunge and it never really cleared up. Cue winter and I start to suffer from my usual crop of coughs and colds and ended up with very nasty chest infection around the turn of the year. I've had antibiotics, steroids (they did work but can't stay on them for ever), increase in my asthma inhalers both preventer and reliever, steroid nasal spray and now I'm on meds which are meant to reduce allergic response. I'm still coughing. It's not as bad as it was but I'm still experiencing bouts of explosive, barking, uncontrollable coughing a couple of times a day whuch leave me shaky and tired out. I sound like a seal. I've had a chest X-ray which is all clear but I'm constantly at the doc. I'm now almost apologetic as I sidle in which is silly....it's not my fault it's not clearing up, but I'm starting to feel guilty about always being there. I don't want to do very much at the moment in case it starts the cough-dental hygienist on Wednesday is going to be fun. I'm getting very dispirited, I just don't know what to do
