That's a tough one. If it was just a maybe, no. If it was a definite, yes.

I am not sure janerowena Whilst I know it could be beneficial to get information on what health problems I could expect, I think it may be more of a case of opening a can of worms, with maybe a lot of difficult decisions to be made. It is making me think though!

I reckon ignorance could be bliss here. Wouldn't want to risk it. I know I'm being chicken!

I tend to agreeJ10 as a lot of my older generation used to say 'What you don't know Can't hurt you' however for people with a genetic history of certain diseases it may either give a chance to take evasive action or maybe peace of mind. Unfortunately like a lot of the over the counter products, we may wonder at the level of accuracy.

Not for me. No way do I want to know. I dont think there is genetic history of anything in particular on either side of the family, so I will just take my chances, rather than wondering if I really am likely to get x or y because I am a bit susceptible to it.

It's quite tempting for someone like me who only knows anything about one side of their family. When the doctor asks, "do you have any - blah - in your family?", it would be good to be able to give a full answer.

No you are quite right jbf It really has nothing to do with S/drug. I just saw the advert last night for their particular brand, seemed so much more accessable for some reason.

There has been a lot in the news lately about DNA testing and new breakthroughs. 23andMe is one of the companies selling home kits to see what you may have, as going through official channels privately would cost a fortune.

I suppose, if your parents have a disease and you think you may inherit it, it's a good place to start, especially if you live abroad. Over here, however, you would probably get it done free. After a wait - and I suppose that's the problem.
