Started on Wed with a itch on my stomach.
Thursdays I had a rash all over my stomach went to see
GP who said I had an allergic re action to something and gave me antihistime tablets to take and suggested using cold E45 for the itching.
Saturday I was covered all over in a rash, legs, arms, even palms of hands so went to see another GP who again said the same but couldn't offer any advice for the itching.
The itching is totally driving me insane, does anyone have any suggestion.
Had cold showers and have used an insect bite cream.
The spots are now large lumps some are blisters.
I had thought I had chicken pox but doc said not.
HELP

Poor you.
I dont know how to stop the itching. I am sure others might.

Have you changed your washing powder?

loopylou Sun 17-May-15 11:12:44

That sounds very uncomfortable, have you eaten anything that might cause a reaction like seafood or touched any plants? Washing powder/bath oils?
Could it be an extreme reaction to an insect bite?

How awful for you, it will be driving you mad!
I have found that Anthisan cream is good for stopping itching, when other creams haven't worked, so it might be worth a try.
I hope you are better soon. flowers

Calamine lotion? It sounds horrible - hope it eases soon.

Nelliemoser Sun 17-May-15 11:58:06

I had something like that around my ankles many years ago it was appallingly itchy. Have you been gardening or around any plants that might have caused it. Could you try antihistamine cream as well?

Tegan Sun 17-May-15 12:10:12

Yes; I was wondering about ivy.

AshTree Sun 17-May-15 12:28:28

Have you tried the E45 Itch Relief cream? I find that so good at relieving itchiness. Another one to try is Sudocrem. I wouldn't be without either of these creams.
I tend to suffer from itchiness - not a rash as you have, so is probably not the same thing - I take a 'one a day' hayfever/allergy tablet every night before bed. I have also swapped my down quilt and pillows for man made fibre ones and I cannot believe the difference it has made. I miss the feel of the down quilt, but it was a high price to pay.

AshTree Sun 17-May-15 12:33:39

Could it be hives? Have a look at this website

Teetime Sun 17-May-15 12:37:35

I think the blistering is unusual and would go back to the GP and perhaps ask for some blood tests.

Mishap Sun 17-May-15 12:51:22

Sounds grim - back to GP if it persists?

Nelliemoser Sun 17-May-15 12:53:09

Ashtree that is what mine looked like. I have never had it since and I still have no clue what caused it.

loopylou Sun 17-May-15 13:04:27

Hogweed (looks a bit like cow parsley) causes appalling rash with blisters if you get the sap on you. I know this probably isn't relevant to Jeanie so apologies for diverting from the thread.

Soutra Sun 17-May-15 13:09:53

You may find Poxclin designed to soothe chickenpox helpful.

Thank you so much for the replies it's much appreciated.
I've been to the pharmacy today and they have given me Periton which causes drowsiness so this will help hopefully with my sleeping (hardly slept last night).
She suggested if I've not received some relief within the next few days I should go back to the GP.
I've been using the antihistamine cream but found out you can only use it for at the most 7 days.
Ash Tree not heard of Sudocrem but will try and buy it tomorrow.

I've bought some cotton pants thought that would be better for my skin.

I thought back to Wednesday when it all started and I was clearing out the garage and it was very dusty and I read on the Internet dust mites can cause this type of reaction but I don't have a runny nose or eyes.
My big worry was if it was contagious as we had visited our newborn grandson last Sunday.

Primula maculoides can cause urticaria in some people.

J52 Sun 17-May-15 13:17:06

This sounds really awful for you, sympathies.

Some years ago I had an allergic reaction to something and the rash was confined to my face, v sore and itchy. It made me cry, the salt from my tears made it worse!

The Dr gave me a short course of steroids, which cleared it up like magic and it never came back. I hope yours goes soon. x

Someone I know had similar and turned out to be from eating kiwi fruit.

annodomini Sun 17-May-15 13:23:09

I had a similar rash at a time of stress (house moving with two small children) and nothing seemed to work until I was bed-bound with viral meningitis. But I don't recommend that as a solution.

Coolgran65 Sun 17-May-15 13:23:56

Calamine lotion, also perhaps an old fashioned paste of baking soda and water.

When I had a (not as extreme) itch reaction I bouoght super sensitive non bio washing powder and washed every item of clothing and towels starting with my underwear.
I also was prescribed Cortisone Cream (also available in Asda) but don't know that you could use that if you have blisters.
Sudocream is in a little grey pot with red/white label and is found in the baby aisle - I also used that when I had the itch, before using the cortisone cream.

Lanacane (for intimate itching but could use it anywhere) might help.

Wouldn't be without cortisone cream and sudocream in my bathroom cabinet.

A cool/cold shower/bath might give temporary relief.

Could you have used a new perfume - or even a very old one ??
Or just one that you haven't used for ages.
An allergy can appear practically overnight.

soontobe Sun 17-May-15 13:27:09

Were there chemicals in the garage?

loopylou Sun 17-May-15 13:33:23

Were you wearing latex gloves? They can cause contact dermatitis but it would be unusual to start on your tummy.

AshTree Sun 17-May-15 13:43:56

jeannie Sudocrem is what virtually all mums use on their babies' bottoms! But it is also recommended for eczema and other skin complaints. You'll find it easily in any chemists or supermarket - it's a round pot, pale grey with red writing.

I get chronic itch on my fore arms every summer (sun damage ?) I use Boot anti-itch cream, works perfectly.

Eloethan Sun 17-May-15 19:32:11

I think if very severe itching doesn't subside then it should definitely be investigated further.
