Baker Cyst

Does anyone have this? My left knee has been swollen up like a melon all week and although I am used to arthritic pain the swelling and tightness behind the knee is fairly recent.

I am having an X ray next week to confirm and see what state the knee is in.

This also explains the hot sensation down the front of my leg when I sit down in the evening because apparently it's caused by fluid leaking from the cyst.

I'm on Naproxen now instead of Ibuprofen so hopefully that will help.

Ho-Hum!

Yes, yes and yes!!
That was me about 2 months ago and I am happy to say the knee pain has gone, the feeling of weakness behind the knee has gone (well most of the time) and the shin pain which I had taken for shin splits despite the fact I do no exercise blush
BTW along with the Naproxen I take Omeprazole to protect my stomach.
I hope yours eases soon!

Thanks, Soutra. Yes, I am taking Omeprazole as well.

I'll be very pleased indeed if I'm free of this pain in two months. Fingers crossed.

naproxen gives me terrible stomach problems.

That's why my doc prescribed the Omeprazole to be taken with it, and also stressed that it must not be taken on an empty stomach, etheltbags.

My DH and I have both had these. Some four years the pain I had was so severe , also the heat and swelling caused the Dr to send me to hospital as she thought it was a DVT. They kept me for 9 hours until they sent me home after an injection in my stomach and I went back the next day for another until I returned on Mon for a Doppla? scan which showed a ruptured Baker's cyst. No further treatment was given. I think the pain goes once it ruptures.

Yes and I found omeprazole and naproxen helped lots. I have inflammatory arthritis and try and avoid taking naproxen/anti inflammatories long term but in short bursts for various flare ups, they're unbeatable. My gP recommended taking the omeprazole before my morning cup of tea and the naproxen immediately after a main meal.
