yet another appeal for advice, please.I have had back trouble for nearly
45 years. Till about 20 years ago, it was disc problems. Then an xray showed that there was very little of the discs left. It has continued to hurt though nothing like as agonisingly as when it was disc trouble .
I used to be able when discs were the problem to get over it by lying flat on my back for a fortnight which always worked and to do the same , to deal with pain after the discs had disappeared.
Now, however, the situation has changed, partly, I think, because of knee pain. I had a knee replacement a year ago but the knee still hurts when getting up and when going up and down stairs. \the other also needs replacement but I are not have it done till...if ever... my operated-on knee can take the weight on crutches.
I don't know how to cope with it. I have had a Dunlopillo bed for years...including a replacement bed and several replacement mattresses... and it has been marvellous for back pain. Now, however, it now hurts my back. As a replacement mattress alone is £2,000, I can't take the risk of buying a new one and find that it doesn't work. I have been sleeping on the sofa downstairs for months. It has been better than my bed but is starting to make my back hurt now.
Please does anyone have any suggestions about what to buy as a bed and also as a sofa or chair?
I have just started seeing a chiropractor: sometimes he helps, sometimes he doesn't. I take cocodamol and ibuprofen daily but they don't touch the pain. I have just seen my doctor who is re-referring me to a physiotherapist and to the knee surgeon but says that stronger painkillers may aggravate my IBS. She will, of course, take further steps after those she is taking as from today but I don't know what yet. So I would be grateful for suggestions about what I can do or buy to help the situation.
Thank you.
