Hospital Care at home

My brother in law has had serous health problems for a few years now where he's been unable to carry out many everyday personal tasks. His wife and carers have cared for him with great dedication during this period however things have dramatically changed these past few days. Yesterday the family GP sent for the hospital doctor and along with 2 hospital nurses my brother in law was assessed as needing further medical intervention. They immediately carried out several health requirements ensuring my brother in law was comfortable. My sister in law wants her husband to stay at home and the medical professionals under the (Hospital Care at Home team) are happy to abide by her wishes. It looks like the beginning of the end now. I would like to say how caring all these doctors and nurses are and commend their professionalism and comforting role both to my brother in law and his ageing wife.

How wonderful that your sister and her husband are being looked after this way and their wishes granted with regard to Home Care, its good to hear that the Care Team can put the service into operation so quickly in making your BIL comfortable and ease the pressure on your sister.

It is so good to hear of this excellent care. When I retired we were in the process of setting up what was then know as a 'virtual ward' and I think these are now being developed all over the country. I hope your BIL is being kept comfortable and all the family are reassured by this. Best wishes. flowers

In my neck of the woods here, "hospital at home" is encouraged to discharge patients early after major surgery and free a bed. After my knee replacement I was discharged on a Saturday pm and on Sunday am firstly a physio came to assess me and then a nurse. I think that the physio came around 4 days until he was happy that I could cope. The nursing staff came daily for over a week.

The physio was very good, apart from showing me exercises, he did practical things like showing me the correct way to get in and out of a car on the passenger side.

I have had no experience of "end of life" care.

Elizabeth That sounds like a wonderful solution to a difficult and emotional situation. I've never heard of hospital care at home, it's very reassuring.
