Nelliemoser, I'm inclined to agree with you!

My silent reflux symptoms started about five months ago, and my GP immediately prescribed lansoprazole, which acts in a similar way to omeprazole, and doubled the dose when it didn't seem to be having much effect, in fact my throat was getting worse.

I was then prescribed Ranitidine, and began having coughing fits, earrache and sometimes toothache! I decided to take myself off all meds and just take Gaviscon Advance after meals and at bedtime, and touch wood it seems to be working.

It's taken many weeks to settle down though, the damage done to the throat lining can apparently take months to heal. Good luck petra, it's a miserable affliction.

I have not had reflux but I did have bad indigestion for a while and after a gastroscopy they found I had a heliobacter pylori infection (the one that causes ulcers).

I had the antibiotic along with omemprazole and the discomfort continued. I tried Ranitidine and the Esomeprazole. When the Esomeprazole ran out I did not order any more and just used the Gaviscon.

Lo and behold the discomfort cleared up very quickly once I stopped omeprazole. I really do think that the omeprazole was starting to cause me further problems. I am not saying stop taking it but be aware.

I have a hiatus hernia and take 20mg omeprazole twice daily. I don't really have any major problems with reflux-have you tried this?

Thanks for that, Tanith.

My husband used to get terrible acid reflux all the time but he recently had a serious surgery and had lots of meds to take afterwards and they gave him a stomach protecter to take before he ate breakfast (it was long lasting) and he hasn't suffered any problems with reflux since he started taking them.
Just a suggestion that you could ask about maybe. He was always taking all sorts of antacid meds nothing worked till this.. I hope you get some relief soon .

I have silent acid reflux. This has been going on for 4 months. I've had it diagnosed from the hospital and I'm now on the third different antacid tablet. Nothing is working. I'm watching what I eat and drink.
I was reading today about a system called: Linx Reflux management system. It is a bracelet type thing that is put round something in your gut. That sounds very technical, doesn't it. Lol.
Obviously it is a private procedure. Just wondering if anyone's had it done, because I really am at the end of my tether now. I don't do being unwell.
