My travel plans down to my two daughters and their families for Christmas, have been planned for months but for the last week I have had a really bad cold. I thought it had passed on Sunday and I would be fit to travel today (Tuesday) but yesterday it came back with a vengence and I didn't sleep a wink last night, mainly because I have been taking Sudafed which kept me awake all night, but also because I was coughing non-stop. Today I have lost my voice completely and the family and I have been discussing what to do. I have a 3 month old GD so we don't want her to catch it, in fact I wouldn't want my worst enemy to catch this cold.

So, we have decided that because daughter No.1 and her partner are going to his parents for 2 days before Christmas, I am going into Quarantine and staying there for a couple of days, in the hope that I can get rid of it. Then if it works, I will be going to daughter No.2 with my beautiful GDs for Christmas Day morning and we will open the presents. Then they are going off to No.2 husband's family for a couple of days and I go back to daughter No.1 as they will then be back home.

I have been looking forward to this Christmas for such a long time, I just hope it all works out as we want. tchsad

Thank heavens we've all been through this virus last month - just hoping this means we won't get it again. [fingers crossed emoticon]

Hope your Christmas works out well for you all mischief and that your sore throat doesn't develop into something worse whitewave

Last year our littlest grandson was poorly, he even missed Christmas lunch as he fell asleep on the sofa !! This year I have that very cough and no voice you mention.

I'm working on the principle that I've had it over a week I'm not contagious . But I do keep washing my hands and must be using too much hand sanitiser as our 2 yr old grandson keeps coming over for a go!!

I do hope you're feeling better for the big day!!

mischief I'm sorry you are not well. If you were an American you would dash of to your physician and get some vitamin shots. As I don't think you are you could boost yourself up with some high dose Vit C and Echinacea, stay on a light diet, make sure you are in a warm well ventilated room - don't get over hot. Nice as they are alcohol toddies etc only give your liver something else to do when you need all your resources and get plenty of rest. I hope you pick up soon its so miserable for you.

Can I put in a plug for steam inhalations. I am a great believer in them - they help to stop the germ-laden gunk settling on your chest. I have been under a towel several times a day this week and have turned a corner.

Winter babies are always a problem - so many colds around and we are desperate not to give anything to the little ones. Is your GD breast fed? - that might help her to avoid your bugs. All you can do is admire her from afar and avoid kissing and cuddling - hard I know!

Fingers crossed that all the germy people get a good Christmas!

I'm a great believer in steam inhalations too luckygirl with added Olbas Oil if does the job for me. I avoid day/night nurse and suchlike they just make me feel worse. Sudafed makes feel very odd too and sleepless. I think it's an ingredient called pseudo ephedrine that doesn't agree with me. Huge sympathy to everyone with winter bugs, get well soon flowers
