I realised I was out of step with current exfoliation mores when-legs vulnerably akimbo- the colposcopy nurse exclaimed cheerily "ooh a hairy one haven't seen one of those for a while"!!! Thankfully I have a sense of humour and didn't really give a FF about her opinion but it was unprofessional even if totally on the zeitgeist...

If only it were the other way round. I'd happily be more hirsute elswhere if my (head) hair would stop thinning!

I have had no need to shave underarm hair in the last few years as none has grown there. No leg hair either but ladygarden, although sparse, is still flourishing.

When I went for a small procedure at a Day Surgery Unit, we were given paper pants to wear. A Japanese patient chose to wear hers on her head with her pigtails throw the leg holes. Oh how we laughed What could have been a tiresome day turned into a bonding day over paper pants, with more than slight hysteria thrown in.

Its not just aging that thins hair. I had my armpits "sugared" a few times when it was all the rage about 25 years ago when I was still in my thirties, (just), and no hair has ever grown there since. What a result. Wish I'd had every hairy bit of my body done at the same time!

My daughter was given a pair of those sexy paper knickers to put on when she went with a friend to a health spa for the day. She realised halfway through the back massage that she had put them on backwards and much more bottom was on display than should have been.

Personally, I do not like the look of arm pits at all. Perhaps it is because where I grew up they were called 'oxters' and were never - at least by Ladies - ever flaunted about in public. In the absence of a cap sleeve, a bolero or short cardi would be worn. I have pictures of us jiving at the youth club - all wearing big skirts and petticoats (with stockings and suspenders!) either short sleeved tops or gypsy blouses. Everyone of us had a full length wedding dress with full length sleeves.

I love to swim but always use breast stroke; have been skinny dipping but with elbows firmly clamped to sides; have breastfed in public (boobs are lovely) - but armpits = Yeugh

I find, that as I get older, the hairy bits give up the ghost, so underarm hair has disappeared and the rest is fairly sparse.

If you don't like the look of hair in armpits, which grows for a reason, then why do you tolerate hair on heads?

I think it's nice to have a place where we can discuss concerns and "private" things. Like you would if you had a sister.

I shave my armpits because I think they look far nicer that way.

I was chatting to my beautician the other day about pubic hair. She's dead against removing that and was very vocal about it all. I guess we'd better not mention hair "down there" though, in order not to offend the easily offended. Oops, too late.

Only went on this because I saw Harrigran was posting and wanted to say well done that woman.

They can give what they cheerfully call sexy knickers to cover your modesty pre surgery . (Paper disposable.)
As long as it's a genuine question and not trollery. I keep away from the political threads and avoid the intimate area ones

Agree with Ethelbags! We have a saying in our family 'Sort of girl who doesn't shave her pits'. So PC - not. I always find the time to shave as I am in the pool every day in summer, and go to a public pool during winter. It was once thought that the French never shaved - well they do now, have never seen hairy pits in the French public pool. and in fact after 10 years of running a gite I don't think I have ever seen any female guest with hairy pits.

Each to his own and you don't have to read the thread. It can be very informative however intimate or even distasteful as helmcd says lifelong learning.

Do not worry yourself about hair removal for a colonoscopy, not needed.
I have just had major surgery and a colostomy created, not one hair was removed.

Mamar the scope for a colonoscopy is inserted into the rectum so you certainly do not have to shave your pubic hair - and if you have hair around the rectum that doesn't need to be shaved either.

Sorry - my last short post was a response to tigger - not Mamar2. Re Mamar's post, I would have thought it would be mentioned in the instructions in the appointment letter if shaving was necessary. But I expect there a lot of people better qualified to answer this than me.

I'm one of the women who has no one to ask what to do with my pubic hair. (sorry if this offends anyone, although I don't know why it should). I've done nothing up to now, but I'm going for a colonoscopy in a few weeks time. Would I be expected to be hair free?
Thank goodness I've found a safe place to ask this without embarrassment.
