Helpful advice from the specialist

Because both my late grandmother and sister have had bowel cancer, I have a colonoscopy regularly to make sure that if I get it, action can be taken quickly. I also have the NHS bowel cancer check once every row years and pay privately the other year. It costs about £40.

I do have IBS and Diverticular problems but nothing that can't be dealt with.

My only remaining problem was that I often need the loo (bowel department) up to 3 times a day, which can be quite inconvenient when out and about.

The specialist said that to combat this problem I could take an Imodium tablet occasionally just to slow things down and that I would not become constipated.

Well I am so pleased to report his advice has been really useful and at the times I start to go 3 times a day I take one tablet and all is sorted out. I might only be taking one or two tablets a month and I feel so much better.

Of course if I had a stomach upset I would take the recommended dose.

I hope this might help others with the same problem.

Harrigran just picked up that you have recently had surgery. Hope things are healing and that you are feeling stronger every day. Take plenty of rest and be gentle with yourself. Sounds like you have still a bit of a journey ahead of you. Will be the thinking of you flowers

My mother and father both died of bowel cancer within a year of each other. That was a long time ago before sophisticated treatment was available, but I was advised to keep a wary eye. I do the postal test regularly but am aware of the fact that it isn't foolproof. Regular mammograms failed to spot my breast cancer.
