the mirena worked for me

mollie Tue 23-Feb-16 18:29:21

Well, I'm still glad to hear that it worked Riverwalk.

Riverwalk Tue 23-Feb-16 18:01:06

Sorry Mollie I read your OP as peri-menopausal, that's when I was prescribed the Mirena, not post.

mollie Tue 23-Feb-16 17:45:22

Yes, you aren't meant to bleed past menopause but some do. There are a number of reasons, some serious. One solution, after a number of investigations, is a particular coil. I gather it provides a slow release of a hormone that stops the thickening of the lining of the womb which causes the bleeding in this case. And yes, if you are post menopause and start to bleed you should consult your doctor.

I thought once you were passed the menopause you didn't bleed, as in menopause means the cessation of menstruation. (and if you did bleed you should rush to the doctor)
Maybe during "the change" is that what it is for i.e. peri-menopausal when periods can be very heavy?

The Mirena is the one on offer - the leaflet says when used with HRT - is that essential? I'm not taking HRT. Pleased to hear it works though, Riverwalk and Cherrytree59.

No experience of it for this purpose. I hope it works for you.

However, I'm grin to myself because I had one fitted when younger. It disappeared un be know to me and my son was the result !

Cherrytree59 Tue 23-Feb-16 15:35:01

I hada mirena coil fitted when I was peri- menopausal.
I had very heavy bleeding that meant some days I couldn't go out at all.
It worked! as Riverwalk said problem solved.

Riverwalk Tue 23-Feb-16 14:36:17

Yes. I had a Mirena coil fitted - problem solved.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/1575675-age-58-and-doc-suggests-mirena-coil-any-experiences

But there is this conversation on Mumsnet which sounds very positive.

Charleygirl Tue 23-Feb-16 14:28:29

Neither have I. I was under the impression that it caused bleeding when a person was menstruating.

Luckygirl Tue 23-Feb-16 14:25:59

Never heard of it being used for this purpose!

mollie Tue 23-Feb-16 13:39:19

Has anyone had a coil fitted for post-menopausal bleeding? It's been suggested and I'd like to know more.
