grin

Well, it's one way to be able to eat chocolate without the undesired effects. Can't be bad. grin

Yes Cari. And we know why your legs are getting shorter by the day. hmm

How many miles is it at the moment? wink

Over the last week? 85km ish ish. What's that in old money? About 53 miles I think. Though Saturday was a bit of a write-off what with lounging in bed and eating chocolate for most of the day

Phoebes Tue 08-Mar-16 14:49:43

Who wrote this patronising rubbish? They don't take into account why you may not be getting enough exercise. I recently had a knee replacement and have asthma, so I can't do much strenuous exercise. Maybe they should ask a few general health related questions first.

janeainsworth Tue 08-Mar-16 14:41:13

link to the quiz Mary

nipsmum Tue 08-Mar-16 13:49:06

I get the impression this campaign is going on in England. That's OK. I'm already 75
and live in Scotland. It's too late for me I expect.

maryEJB Tue 08-Mar-16 13:47:05

Where is this quiz? I clicked on the link and got the release by PUblic Health England, but saw no quiz

Pamish Tue 08-Mar-16 13:16:09

8/10 because I don't exercise to meltdown every day. I've just run my first 5k.

Most annoyed by the drink stuff. I put once a month, 1-2 glasses of wine which is about true. And was warned to watch my drinking. FFS.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 08-Mar-16 13:12:57

They make no allowance for having a bit of happiness in life. At this rate we'll all die of health anxiety. Can't be good for people to be always worrying about this kind of thing. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 08-Mar-16 13:10:23

I thought the same Craftycat. Pushing my heavy Miele vac round definitely gives me a good workout! (Probably why I don't do it too often shock)

Mamie Tue 08-Mar-16 13:01:15

I was green for everything except wine, which was orange (8/10). My 8 small glasses spread over the week with three days off was still within their recommended guidelines, but apparently I might feel much better if I didn't drink that. (Obviously some very hard evidence underpinning that judgement hmm).
Happily as I am in France the UK guidelines don't apply to me. grin

I got 6 but I find it difficult to answer some questions as I sometimes go to the gym a lot and sometimes [eg now] haven't been for a while. Same with walking etc and eating vegetables. And it seems to assume that, as I only drink sometimes, when I do I binge drink.

tiggypiro Tue 08-Mar-16 12:54:08

Totally agree with the 'patronising drivel' comments. I was told off for having 1 bottle of wine spread over 2 weekend days and nothing during the week. It inferred that it was better to drink it every night !

Craftycat Tue 08-Mar-16 12:53:19

If I has taken this quiz in my 40s I would have got 10/10- went to a class at gym every day but life takes over. I used to walk dog 3-5 miles a day but then she died (probably worn out although she was 18).
Now it is just not right to get another dog- one day when GCs are older & I'm not needed so much. I don't want to walk in cold & rain at 6am anymore & as I don't have to- I don't!

What annoyed me about quiz was no mention of HOUSEWORK which can be very strenuous & done every day - well some of it. I know I could do with losing some weight & have just stared 5:2- which works for me but I also enjoy baking- especially for GC. You have to taste it don't you.
If this is aimed at 40 somethings then OK - maybe but it is not realistic for 60+- or am I making excuses? Pass the Pinot!

Greyduster Tue 08-Mar-16 12:51:46

Utter patronising nonsense. I got six out of ten, but I didn't bother to answer any of the fitness ones because none of the exercise I take during the week is of the variety that will make me breathe hard or my heart race! That doesn't mean I don't take any exercise.

Teacher11 Tue 08-Mar-16 12:44:40

I have just done this test and got 10/10 without lying (except I didn't give my real name or my e-mail address as I don't want to be on the health Stazi's radar). The catagories and questions are all related to health and are more or less sensible. However, the language is patronising to say the least. Possibly, 'an insult to intelligence' might be nearer the case.

I object to taxpayers' money being spent on this twaddle. Everyone knows what they SHOULD be doing to stay healthy and they don't need telling again at a public cost of millions. The truth is that while individuals know how to be fit, healthy and slim, human nature is venial and incorrigible and any number of warnings of 'STEP AWAY FROM THE CAKE/WINE/PEANUTS' etc.are not going to succeed.

grumppa Tue 08-Mar-16 12:35:12

Patronising drivel. Very disappointed to score 5/10; thought I'd manage much less than that!

Lupatria Tue 08-Mar-16 12:21:13

completely patronising and, as others have said, they didn't take into consideration that if you're disabled you find it difficult, if not impossible, to exercise.

i got 6 out of 10 but told a few fibs about the food choices - although i told the truth about choosing chips and also burgers!!!

i don't exercise and i don't eat my 5 [or is it 7] a day. i do eat vegetables but find it difficult to eat the requisite number of portions in one day. i don't snack on fruit or vegetables so that only leaves my main evening meal to use the entire day's allocation [never even wanted to think about putting fruit on my cereal!].

and how dare they give me little "tips" and "hints" about my lifestyle - i've lived all this time without them - having them tell me how to live my life now isn't happening!!!

so, that's me - 69 next birthday, overweight, disabled with arthritis and unable to walk very far. however much they tell me that i can improve myself i just plain don't want to!!! i'll live out my allocated lifespan, whatever that is, and enjoy myself doing it - i don't want to be the oldest woman in england and miserable - i just want to be ME and happy.

trisher Tue 08-Mar-16 11:50:34

Oh what rubbish! Apparently to get the best from it I have to do 30mins of Tai chi twice a week instead of the 1 hour once a week I currently do! And the condescending comments will drive me to drink (or chocolate!!!)

merlotgran Tue 08-Mar-16 11:37:04

I got 10/10 and was congratulated on being the goodiest of goody goodies.

That'll be because I lied about the wine

wink

westieyaya Tue 08-Mar-16 11:30:57

Extremely irritating, as an arthritic asthmatic exercise and brisks walks are not an option

TriciaF Tue 08-Mar-16 11:28:30

The exercise section was no good for me - I never exercise until puffed out, but I do walk for about 30 minutes most days - there wasn't an option for that.

railman Tue 08-Mar-16 11:14:37

Complete tripe - especially the first few points on the Gov.Uk link.

This one really made me chuckle:
^around 40% of all deaths in England are related to behaviour^

Yeah - and 75% of statistics are made up on the spot.

Taking the 40% stat at face value, then we can assume that 40% of people with good behaviour will die?!

And then there's this one:

^the NHS spends more than £11bn a year on treating illnesses caused by the effects of diet, inactivity, smoking and drinking alcohol^

Duty and tax revenue from alcohol and tobacco, VAT on restaurant food, takeaway food, and gym membership fees already exceeds £11bn a year by some margin.

MiniMouse Tue 08-Mar-16 11:11:22

Nonsense quiz! As others have said, regarding exercise it doesn't take into account your stae of health - exercise and ME are not happy companions wink Ironically, I scored well on that, which is odd because I'm pretty sedentary most of the time confused

Also, I fell foul of the snack questions because the question asked which foods you'd snack on on a daily basis. I ticked what I eat, but I don't eat all of them per day, it would be either/or, but the question didn't allow for that!

NannyVL Tue 08-Mar-16 10:54:15

rubbish quiz, it didn't ask about any health problems which could effect excercise etc, I am severly disabled so therefore can't excerside and couldn't lift a heavy bag of shopping to save my life. very patronising, don't think it will have any effect on a persons health choices
