I've had kidney stones (I was 8 months *pregnant at the time). The pain was indescribable (till the *morphine kicked in). *I know, but I was literally crawling on the floor in pain.

I find that certain foods seem to stimulate my kidneys - e.g. if I eat melon, I almost instantaneously need the loo. Same with cucumber.

I had pylitis when expecting first baby. Not Nice!

Good advice to drink plenty of water, tepid or warm if you can another bunch to add to your collection. Get Well Soon x

Thanks for flowers Jings....need cheering up. Every time I get slightest twinge I'm worried in case it goes back to where it was yesterday. Still at the dreading the loo stage as it kicks it off again. Have 2 ltr water bottle beside me to drink and also meant to have dgd after school as dd on school trip.

God I know what you mean. I had a kidney infection after son was born. Never known pain like it. Best.

Actually I've got a b awful, extremely painful infection....was passing blood, had to go to out of hours clinic at midnight on Tuesday. Sample was 'loaded' with nasties apparently. Developed renal colic pain despite cocodamol which knocked me sideways and had to get GP out yesterday morning. Now on anti inflammatories with warning of hospital admission for kidney stone investigation if it doesn't settle. Fortunately symptoms have settled to a degree, but still having left hand renal pain although much more tolerable than yesterday. Suppose 24 hours is a little rapid for recovery! Not a patient patient I'm afraid. This has been absolutely horrendous in terms of pain levels-akin to childbirth!

By adding extra fluid you will have woken your kidneys up and they will have started to pass out more fluid. Not the water just taken in, but fluid from your blood.

You just drink loads now!

Some foods and liquids are absorbed through the stomach lining - though most are absorbed in the small intestine.

If you eat asparagus you will know about it first time you empty your bladder - and that can be very soon afterwards.

I have a rather unpleasant and painful uti and found that my first glass of water this morning seemed to soothe things within about 10 minutes. Wondered if this was coincidental or if water was having such a rapid effect.

Can you tell us why you are asking?

The liquid you drink has to go into your blood first. I think that is an ongoing thing, so you can't really measure how long a particular drink has taken to get to the kidneys.

Not sure of the precise time it rather depends on the body's level of hydration at the time but pretty quickly especially alcohol as the body tries to rid itself of toxins.
