mastitis

I used to get it. It is completely debilitating but antibiotics are a very quick fix.

My daughter got mastitis, I think because she reduced feeding a bit too quickly. Antibiotics and grannie looking after baby overnight - all well within 24 hours.

Needs to keep breast feeding , antibiotics and warm flannels on breasts in warm bath. Also regular paracetamol. ( I used to be a GP )

I started with this with one of my kids and shot off to the GP ASAP and got some antibiotics which worked.

Do people still put cabbage leaves in their bra to help with it?

Tegan - amazing coincidence! Only this week a remark about lettuce at Tai Chi led me to mention cabbage leaves. A few women knew what I meant but the instructor asked me to explain ... Poor chap, TMI but we're still friends!
The people who'd tried cabbage leaves said they were very soothing. Worth a try, I think.

My Dil had this a couple of times last year. She was quite ill with the first one and needed two lots of anti-biotics because she didn't realise what was wrong. The second time she got anti-biotics straight away and it cleared up much more quickly. Warm cloths and baths helped.

DD had it but it cleared up quickly with antibiotics. Jamie Oliver's wife Jools writes about it in her baby book. She said he came home and found her weeping with pain on the sofa while trying various herbal remedies. He took her straight round to the doctor for antibiotics and she was jolly glad he did.

Ah, thanks all! She seems a lot better this morning.The antibiotics are doing the trick. Not sure if people still use the cabbage leaves,but it's worth a try along with the warm flannels!
I'm on standby to catch the first train if needed!

Not a coincidence at all Elrel; only you and I could manage to turn a conversation around to cabbages and their many uses of ...pleased to hear she's on the mend, Megram, even without the use of cabbages [you might take some with you just in case, though...

I only had mastitis in my late 30s long after breast feeding days which actually I was not able to carry on with. It was very painful and eventually led to an abcess which led to surgery and 6 days in hospital followed by 6 weeks of district nursing care daily . When it happened in the other breast after other complications I had more surgery to remove all the milk ducts,so it can happen at any time.

I was told it had to be a Savoy cabbage (perhaps because of the wrinkly leaves?).
