Can vitamins/supplements lose their efficacy?

After all our recent illnesses of one kind or another, DH and I decided it was perhaps time to start taking supplements again. We rooted around the cupboard and found both our vitamins, my extra strength cranberry and DH's garlic capsules. Best before dates are Aug/Sept 2015. No point in taking them if they've lost effectiveness but big waste of money if they're still OK to use.

Is there any evidence they 'do' anything anyway Katek?

Very true Jane, can't dispute that but it makes me feel as if I'm doing something positive to help myself!!(along with the gallons of water.....!)

smile Yes that's a powerful argument katek. and I have to confess I take vit B complex, glucosamine/chondroitin, and a cod liver oil capsule myself but do sometimes suspect I am wasting a lot of money.

Does your DH not like garlic au naturel ie in his food?

I take a veggie multivitamin and cranberry capsules. We both love garlic and often have it in food particularly roast veg. I just add cloves into the mix...very tasty, you just can't get too near people! Think that's part of his reason for taking the capsules.

I have tried lots over the years to help my Arthritis but didn't find any improvement but I do take Omega 3 fish oil capsules in the hopes its lubricating my joints a bit grin I don't like oily fish. Like all these things they will probably find some fault with them at some point.
