Hi...this is my first post...please bear with me...sorry if this is long winded...
I'm 50 year old female...I've been experiencing pains in my abdomen for some time, noticing pain is getting worse, stomach is more distended and appetite is poor...unable to eat too much, but can drink fluids, am very breathless.....My gp sent me for an urgent ultrasound as recent blood test showed that my liver function test is "high"....had scan this week...The sonographer asked a few questions and he spent quite some time completing the scan....and as I was leaving I advised sonographer that I will be seeing GP following week...he told me that he would prefer me to see her sooner and he is sending results over to her immediately.
As you can imagine, I was quite worried and spent that evening in tears, thinking he has seen something really bad
I contacted gp 24 hrs later and have been advised by receptionist that no results have been received and advised that I call scan dept to ensure they have been sent. Scan secretary looked up my results and told me that an urgent email was sent to gp. I rang the secretary later that day to advise her that the gp centre still had not received it and she advised that she had telephoned the gp practice earlier and was assured that it was received....she then said that she would fax another copy of the results to them just to be on the safe side. As you can imagine, by this time, I am starting to worry by what felt like a sense of urgency and the fact that the hospital had contacted the gp practice within 24 hours as usually you have to wait ages for results and having worked in NHS I know they are not always so prompt in forwarding results etc
After some going and froing, I finally managed to speak with gp receptionist who advised that they have now received scan results and they are fine and they can't understand why the hospital felt that it was urgent.
I rang the scan secretary and updated her, and her response was "if GP advises that it is ok, then go with what GP says".
I am still struggling and am off work due to the pain I am in....I'm not sure what to do next....sorry for ramble...I am just fed up with not knowing what is wrong with me...any advice would be appreciated...
I am usually quite a confident person and now realised that there were many questions I should have asked at the time but I think my nerves got the better of me, plus there were notices all around the ultrasound room advising patients not to ask the sonographer for results as these will be sent to the GP who made the referral....thanks for taking the time to read this post?
