Worried about DGS aged 4

They were staying with us for 5 days during which time he was unwell. He has gone home now - not far away - and he is still the same. He has no temperature, no diarrhoea, no rash, no general viral malaise - but he is vomiting every day. This started a couple of days before he came to us, so it has been over a week now. He appears perfectly well and is running about and hungry, then he suddenly starts to groan and cry and is sick. Then he falls asleep and continues to be unwell until the next morning when he wakes up as jolly as can be. You think he is better but the come that afternoon the whole cycle starts again.

He was in hospital overnight on Saturday as he was in such distress they feared he might have an intussusception; but the paediatrician came in and said he did not think it was and sent him home.

My DD is trying to get an appointment with the doc for tomorrow.

Has anyone else ever had a child doing this? - he seems perfectly well in the mornings, then everything goes downhill again. He has lost a lot of weight.

Fingers crossed that your little DGS has turned a corner, Lucky. Now for his mum and dad to find ways to build up his strength again without too much pressure on his tum. ?

That is really encouraging Luckygirl. smile
We often make these infections sound much less serious than they really are. A "bug" can cover anything from a 24 hour stomach upset to D&V to E.Coli and other serious and notifiable infections.

He has been consistently better for the last few days - hooray!

I've been thinking about your little GS Luckygirl - is there any more news? Hope there hasn't been a repeat of yesterday's awful episode sad

Luckygirl Wed 13-Apr-16 20:57:33

Thanks for your interest - you are all very kind. Today he has not retched or vomited which is good - he is still not right though - tired and not himself. We have our fingers crossed that the diagnosis of a bug is correct and that he will recover soon - it does seem to be a long job though. If it does not settle fully in the next week I know they will be straight back to the doctor. He has had the odd day without vomiting or retching before and then gone backwards, so we just have to hope that he gradually settles. Poor little chap - we are dying to feed him up and get some flesh back on his bones.

I mentioned this to DD and she reminded me that she once had a bug which had a similar effect. She would be fine in the morning but get worse and worse through the day. It went on for a long time and really wore her down.

Any news luckygirl?

Nana3 Wed 13-Apr-16 20:45:49

Hi luckgirl hope things have improved for your little manflowers

Judthepud2 Wed 13-Apr-16 19:26:12

Luckygirl just wondering how your little GS is today. Poor little man is having an awful time. Surely the medics must do some further investigations to find out the cause of his horrible pain and sickness.
