Quite useful if you're dieting because it puts you off food altogether.

Speaking of yummy tastes, has anyone experienced a horrible toast which lasts for days after eating a lot of pesto? I googled it and its called "pine mouth" it put me right off pesto/pine nuts.

No I haven't touched alcohol and didn't look up the contraindications until after I was feeling so ill.

Thank you Teetime yes I am feeling a lot better today but am just taking it quietly until my stomach settles down and the yukky taste departs.

Trichiomoniasis, I think.

I think it used to be used for "Tricky Dicky" or some other unpronounceable ailment! If you have any alcohol at all, you would feel incredibly nauseous.

Horrible stuff. Used to called flagyl. Was used for a couple of vaginal infections as well as bowel and mouth problems

I took it with no bad results but maybe that was because I was feeling pretty rough anyway. At least you took it for long enough to do the trick.

I find looking at the contraindications can be very scary so wish I didn't need to but unfortunately a lot of things react with my other meds.

I had Metronidazole after my bowel surgery in 2013. The only side effects I had from it were surreal dreams (which were quite good fun), and a mouth that tasted like it was full of rotting teeth. I also felt a bit nauseous on and off, but that seemed to come and go with the Lactulose I was taking, so I put it down to that. My resting heart rate was elevated for a few weeks after, but I assumed that was the surgery itself.

I was warned to steer well clear of alcohol. (According to Wikipedia, Metronidazole is also used to treat alcoholics, and I remember an episode of Casualty where an alcoholic was admitted after boozing on top of Metronidazole.)

These are pretty ghastly as antibiotics go but they are the ones that do the trick after dental surgery and they are the ones it is most important not to take alcohol with (sorry about that grammar I'm typing fast). I hope you are feeling better and your mouth heals soon.
