Not sure that should be surprising. The point really is that those of us on our own have access to other people and their support. MU Mum has lived on her own since 1981 - her comment is "There is difference between being alone and lonely"

... and the fastest growing group of single person households are the over 85s.

I have just heard this on The World at One in an article about the way health and loneliness interact (not well!). The person undertaking the research - at least I think that was who she was - said there will be many "interventions" that would help but what I wonder?
