My anxieties have anxieties today as I have an appointment tomorrow for a Mammogram recall. I am 68 and never happened before so has come as a bit of a shock. Just need some positive thoughts and helpful words that will get me through tonight and tomorrow. Pauline x

I had a recall last year. I was really quite worried. They did a repeat of the mammogram. I had an ultrasound scan and was fully examined by the consultant who eventually decided it might be that a mole under my left breast was showing up on the mammogram as an anomaly but she could find nothing wrong.

Many people I know who attend our local hospital breast care clinic, (they make routine appointments from each surgery at a time) speak very highly of the care given.

I also didn't post because my mammogram detected an early form of breast cancer which was too small to feel. It was quickly removed and after several years of close monitoring has not returned. I used to shake with fear at each follow-up mammogram and scan but what a good thing that the screening process can pick up early problems when they are easier to deal with.

So happy for you Eniluap. I still think you should have cracked open the Champagne though but under the circumstances I guess even a glass of water would have sufficed! ?

Like Annsixty I didn't post because my outcome wasn't good either. But I didn't have a wait like you. Mammogram, scan and biopsy followed by diagnosis within the space of 2 hours. But it did mean that there was early intervention and a positive outcome after treatment.

So pleased you have the all clear. ?

eniluap Wed 04-May-16 20:36:54

Ahhh thank you annsixty. I do feel as if I've won the lottery tonight - in fact I didn't check my premium bonds today as it just wasn't important. I will sleep well, thank you x

annsixty Wed 04-May-16 20:30:45

So pleased for you. I didn't post because mine wasn't good news
but what I did want to say was that for once age is for you. The older you are the better your chances of beating it.
It is 16 years since my diagnosis and apart from old age I am fine.
Sleep well tonight and enjoy the rest of your healthy life. You have been given a bonus. Enjoy it.

I asked the same question to the consultant about doing it all in one go and he said they have 90,000 women to see in the East Anglian area so a big ask for a small department. He was sorry though! Thank you Tegan and Grandma60 for thinking of me, I too consulted Dr Google every day and some threads were good and some scarey but I am really pleased I came across Gransnet as it was my saviour. X

Phew, good news

Tegan Wed 04-May-16 20:02:57

So pleased to hear this; have been thinking of you all day. I now have to keep my promise to the S.O. which is to never ever consult Dr Google ever again!

hildajenniJ Wed 04-May-16 20:00:01

Good news indeed. I know how horrible the wait for results is. I'm glad it was nothing to be concerned about. ??

I think that they have to leave it to the consultant, as after breast cancer you have frequent mammograms, and I know the radiographer knows what he/she is looking at, but would never tell me. I know that because one of them hinted that all was well after one.

With regard to calcium, I had a look at the X-rays when in with the consultant and there was this round white spot about the size of a finger nail. He didn't mention it and I grew more alarmed as I couldn't understand how he could miss it!!! In the end I asked and he said Oh that's just blahdeblah ( meaning a calcium thing) he didn't make anything of it at all.

Lillie Wed 04-May-16 19:29:30

Great news!

I have a question, - so to avoid all the anxiety, why can't the radiographer tell you that there is a small spot right there and then on day one, and immediately send you round to the ultra-sound department as a matter of course? As it is, you have to wait for the result, then wait again for a follow-up appointment, all causing great anxiety.

I am so pleased for you eniluap I have been watching this thread and have had everything crossed for you. I bet you will wake in the morning and for a split second realise that all is well and grin!

It is the best if news.
