I just received this as part of a newsletter (from a health website that I buy stuff on). Very sad, I read her book "Shoot the Damn Dog" some years ago via my job at that time, and other articles by her, and I liked her work. I thought she had overcome her depression.

Sally Brampton

My beautiful friend Sally walked into the sea yesterday afternoon and didn’t come back.

She was a part of me and a part of all of us; an award-winning journalist Sally studied fashion at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design. She began her career at Vogue, moved to The Observer as fashion editor and then launched Elle in the UK where she was editor-in-chief. Most of you will remember Sally for her poignant column in The Sunday Times Style magazine where she wrote about emotions and life’s problems.

Sally’s battle with depression is well documented; she shared her darkness in order to give light and she fought fiercely to try and obliterate the stigma of mental health and together we must uphold her mission; mental illness is so completely devastating for so many people and of course for the friends and family who struggle in their support. It is a very real struggle, we’ve walked it and we’ve talked it, but far more illumination is needed and we have now lost our ‘poster girl’ who continually told the story in her own inimitable way.

Thank you for reading this ... through the tears we need to celebrate Sally’s life and achievements.
Rest in peace, Sally Brampton

I don't know why I put this under "Health". Confused and befuddled. The Grim Reaper has been very busy around me lately.

I do remember her column well and am very saddened by this.
We may have got a "handle" on depression, but we are a long, long way from solving the problem sad

So very sad. Depression is a terrible thing, so little understood by those who haven't been touched by it. The website article is particularly poignant.
