I know there are many on here supporting friends/family who are suffering from Dementia. It's Dementia Awareness Week from 9th-15th May - an opportunity to learn more about this disease, offer a small kindness to those dealing with it. As some of you know I am caring for my mum who has vascular dementia and I have received so much help from the Alzheimer's Society - and met the most wonderfully kind people who have made a big difference to this experience. I send best wishes to all of you in this situation flowers x x x

I cared for both my parents with this in the last years of their lives - it's heartbreaking and such a cruel disease. They both had it at the same time although Mum had to go into care early on due to being unsafe on her feet so they wouldn't let her go home from hospital - she stayed there until her death 4 years ago which was 2 years after my dad passed away. I did find the AS forums really helpful and supportive when we were battling with my father's care as he was still at home and we managed to keep him there until the last 4 months. Such a hard time for anyone going through it.

That must have been jolly hard Willow - caring for both of your parents- I take my hat off to you and offer flowers ? I suppose I am hoping that 'something else' will take my mum before full time care becomes necessary - is that wrong of me ...? She is happy where she is for now but I accept it can't go on indefinitely ..... and that's my concern ...?
