Appendectomy

I had to have an emergency appendix removal two weeks ago by keyhole surgery. It had perforated and made quite a mess in my abdomen apparently and had to have a good power hosing! I had intravenous antibiotics and then carried on with them orally once discharged the next day. I have had a lot of pain but that has now gone and I am up and about, driving and have taken over cooking duties much to hubby's relief! However, I still feel absolutely shattered with no energy whatsoever. Also, my viral labrynthitis has returned just to add to my general lacklustre.
I am getting a lot of rest and to be honest I don't feel like doing much anyway but I did think I would be feeling a lot better than I am. Am I being impatient?

It takes a long time for a general anaesthetic to pass through your system completely, apart from any surgery healing.
Sounds like you're doing well but your body still needs rest.
I had my appendix out when I was 9, I know surgery has progressed a lot since then but I was in hospital for a week!

hotmama you are being impatient! It sounds as if you're making good progress all things considered ...

I had an emergency appendectomy, the full works, some years ago. and it does take it out of you. I think it can be a while before you get rid of the side effects of the anaesthetic. I'm quite sensitive to them and feel wabbit for ages.

I've had labyrinthitis, too, which was simply awful! Maybe you're doing too much, too soon and need more rest. I know boredom can kick in, too, which doesn't help.

Get well soon, anyway. flowers

DS had an emergency appendectomy in his twenties and he didn't exactly bounce back from it. It will take time.

I think because we are discharged so soon after anything these days we, and the family, mainly H's think we are fit to get back to normal. We aren't!!! Take things gently and look after yourself.

Thank you all so much for your kind replies. I think I'll cut myself some slack and rest up some more. I appreciate it takes longer for your body to recover when you're that bit older and I must try and be a bit more patient with myself.

You said it recovery after any op takes time don't be in a hurry I had mine out years ago and was in hospital for 8 days now we are discharged very quickly and once home expected to be back to normal we use to tell women wear your dressing gown for a few days then people don't expect too much saying that I'm not saying your oh does ?
