I too had horrendous pain prior to gall bladder removal. Before diagnosis, I had my first attack on holiday and thought it was my heart. It was only once I returned home, visited my GP who referred me to the hospital, that I was scanned and diagnosed.
I'd read horror stories about constant diarrhoea afterwards, but that never happened. I had keyhole surgery about 6 years ago and have been totally fine since - apart from intermittent symptoms from my hiatus hernia, diagnosed a couple of years later. I can and do eat fatty foods, but as I'm trying to lose weight and get rid of visceral fat, I'm restricting that somewhat (apart from the odd bowl of whipped cream, that is).
achushla really sorry you're suffering so much. As doctors can't help, could you consider complementary treatment such as a medical herbalist, for example, a naturopath or homeopath? Some might call it bunkum, but might still be worth a shot - you never know.

I had my gall bladder out 40 years ago and have never missed it . No post op problems at all.

.... Regurgitation

Izabella Mon 11-Jul-16 10:03:40

Regurgitatin of bile here post op and excruciating oesophageal spasms. Relieved no more biliary colic pain but have to be extremely careful what I eat still. I would advise your friend to introduce things back slowly so she can see how things pan out.

Very sorry to hear about your problems acushia as most of us have posted how relieved we were after the op.
Hope you improve soon, best wishes flowers

Hello, new here today and looking through posts.Gallbladder removal was something I wished had never happened but had silent stones for over 8 years then it got unbearable.Been without gallbladder a year now and IBS intolerances tripled along with weight gain.No help from Doctors and cant have dietician unless my BMI is over 30 and only 28.Been tring out the Hay or food combining way of eating and problem stomache starting to quieten down.Lots out there to help and picked up a cheap book to get started.hope this helps as it seems to be doing good things for me.Been on it for 2 weeks and early days.

I eat fats post gallbladder surgery and feel absolutely fine. Before, the pain was enough to take your breath away

Nana3 Sun 10-Jul-16 17:07:52

I also eat fats since my gall bladder was removed, however eating cheese makes me feel sick I think it's different for different people. I usually do a bowl of fruits, toasted nuts, vegetable crisps and I've found some marmite flavoured pretzels that went down well.

PAIN not IAN!

Newquay Sun 10-Jul-16 16:36:59

Yes she was in a lot of Ian before-IF she ate fat. She is very disciplined and therefore avoided fat til surgery and is now being v careful.
She enjoyed a glass of red wine?

wot Sun 10-Jul-16 16:30:51

It's a very rewarding operation as the pain of gallstones is horrendous.

wot Sun 10-Jul-16 16:29:48

Nor drink a modest amount of wine.

wot Sun 10-Jul-16 16:27:15

What upsets me is if I eat a great deal of custard and also red wine. Not together. I can never eat a modest amount of custard.

wot Sun 10-Jul-16 16:25:39

Oh yes, bile! It s vile. (Best I can do at this time of day)

Liz46 Sun 10-Jul-16 10:28:52

My friend has had her gall bladder removed but still finds that fat upsets her, as do seeds on bread for instance.

Teetime Sun 10-Jul-16 10:08:08

Yes she should be fine after but she may not now fancy fatty things - this often happens when someone has been avoiding things for some time they loose their taste for them. How about some strawberries- you could dip the end in melted chocolate as a gesture to luxury.

(the fluid is bile).

Its avoid fat before you have the gall bladder removed as that is what (supposedly triggers the attacks) post surgery you can eat what you want! Morning after my surgery, I ordered a full english breakfast, it was yum, after spending months picking on bits and pieces to try to avoid setting 'it' off.

Newquay Sun 10-Jul-16 09:04:27

Honestly, sometimes you lot are hopeless! Lol

wot Sat 09-Jul-16 22:37:29

Lettuce and water. Or Full English Breakfast with fried bread and hope for the best. Enjoy!

So is the competition to see who can come up with the best low fat snack smile
People with gall stones are advised to follow a low fat diet prior to surgery but after it's business as usual.

Willow500 Sat 09-Jul-16 19:29:07

I had my gall bladder removed by full surgery 40 years ago and have never had to avoid fat although I don't eat very fatty fried food much. Husband had his out by keyhole surgery a few years ago and he's been fine since. I'd just go with what the rest of you are eating unless it's fish and chips grin

wot Sat 09-Jul-16 18:30:18

I don't think you have to avoid fat when the gall bladder has been removed. The juices (don't know what they're called) run straight from the liver. I've had mine removed, and consume us lot of fat. If I get a "bubbly tummy" I just have a swig of Gaviscon!

Newquay Sat 09-Jul-16 18:23:40

We have a friend who has just had her gall bladder removed-keyhole-all gone very well. She is still being careful with her diet.
We get together to play Canasta from time to time and in the past have had chocs to nibble on.
What can I offer now that is no/low fat do you think?
(The ladies won last night-ha! Ha!)
